I raced a buddies honda 450r and pulled about a bike on him provided i got a good launch. heres the catch, when he blew it up earlier this year he stroked it to a 510. cant wait to line up with my cousins yfz.

i am having problems launching consistantly. i am running 21in tall 8 paddle straights. gearing is 15/41 vs the stock 13/41. i have to really hammer on the throttle before i let out on the clutch or it bogs and i really have to ring out each gear to stay in the power band. i am thinking of dropping to a 14t? ideas?

I spanked two 450r,s and a yfz 450 last weekend, all I have is a toomey t6 pipe/filter/jet kit, reeds, boost bottle and stock gearing on my 06 shee. by the way the yfz was the slowest of the bikes.

Too much gear for that tire w/ your mods. 14/41 is stock gearing. I would go back to a 14t front

this one had 13/41 for stock gearing. a few others 2001's i have seen on here have 13/41 stock too. guess ill try a 14 and see how it goes.

mods are now in sig.

i say keep the gearing and go for a little less agressive tire, but then, the sprocket will be A LOT cheaper so do what's best for ya.

how were the riders? i find it a bit hard to believe the yfz was the slowest unless it was stock and the 450r's were modded pretty good.

also it should be noted that i did not have the timing plate installed during this. back with the stock gearing, timing and 140psi of compression (its at about 165 now) the 450 (before it became the 510r, lol) would pull on me pretty good and the yfz which is piped and jetted would walk me pretty good.

i run 15-41 gearing and it does fine but i do spin a lot and use the clutch allot to get back in the power

but i have razer and i ride mostly hard pack :yucky:

The difference is dirt and sand...sand puts more load on the bike and most people will either get a less aggressive tire (like sredish mentioned) or drop a tooth in the front (like I mentioned) to keep you in the powerband. You shouldn't have to keep clutching it to get going. Bike should pull on its own.

im going to drop a tooth on the front sprocket. its a bit cheaper than new paddles.

thanks for all the replies. im trying to get this thing dialed in before the jamboree on the 20th
