Not Feeling The Powerband

Last night I was riding for some odd 3 hours on my friends farm. Nearing the end of our riding time i took it down the road and opened it all the way up.. in 5th it sort of bogged out on the top end but i pumped the throttle and it seemed to get better. In 6th i was going WOT for about 2 or so minutes and then i hit the powerband unexpectedly.. how come its not always there? what could be wrong? what are some things to check? BTW its 100% stock internally.

sounds like it's a tad lean on the main jets. might go up a size or two on the main jets and it'll help it. along with that you should run some plug checks and confirm that.

sounds like you are running out of fuel. I would take it on a high speed burn then check the plugs. white= bad Brown= good black= bad

i really have no where to open it up here. any other way i can tell? would they still have color on them from last night becuase i can go check that.

no, you need to pull the clutch and kill it while your running it so you can get a direct view to the plugs. if you don't have a lot of places to open it up like that, it makes sense that it's probably jetted around the 4th gear but the load gets greater as you get into 5th and then 6th, so the fuel requirements go up. So, it could be running perfect in 4th WOT and lean out at 6th WOT.

 

Like I said, simply go a size or two richer on the main jets.

ok. how do i know whats in it now?

pull the float bowl off the bottom of the carb and the main is right there on the bottom.
