Jokerzwild Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 I was just curious the amount of parts that I would have to replace with porting to get the best gains out of it and to make it worth doing but not breaking the bank. Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 depends on what kind of porting you get, and what you plan on doing with the bike! Quote
Jokerzwild Posted July 16, 2007 Author Report Posted July 16, 2007 I ride all kind of terain but I want to set it up for dunes,I was thinking of going dune play port, I was thinging maybe going 4mil crank but I dont know. Quote

If you go with a 4mil crank, it will get fairly expensive. You will have to have the porting for the 4mil, bigger carbs, pod K&N's with outerwears, good reeds (V-Force II's, or III's), pipes (CPI's, Shearer's, Rockets, etc.), stroker domes, longer swinger, good clutch, a longer chain for the longer swinger, a complete gasket and seal kit, billet impellar, and that's all I can think of right now. You may already have some of the parts now, but it starts adding up pretty quickly, and if it's for the dunes, you will need some good paddles, like Haulers. Quote
TurboBanshee420 Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 you don't NEED to do anything with a port job. But if you want to take advantage of it you may want to think about some reeds and pipes for starters. you can get a whole wiseco 4mil crank and pistons off egay for $750. I found mine for $599...brand new in the box Quote
fastbanshee8 Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 PM Fastoys on here, and he can answer all of your questions. Porting is adviseable for the 4mil, if you want to get the full benefit from the stroker crank. Quote
RagunCajun Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 (edited) I went through this about 2 months ago. I send my juggs of to get ported and my flywheel lightned. And this is what i did. port job to my spec and flywheel lightened per Flotek w/ return shipping $380 Sold my t6 pipes and got some used t5's($275) Wiseco top end(figured do it while i had it apart) $169 gasket kit for my juggs mmm $30? oring kit and acorn nut kit for my NOSS cooling head forgot how much main jets, pilot jets NOSS machine read spacers forgot the price bottle of engine ice $30 tourqe wrench $75 some new spark plugs, $3 a piece. I also did other mods to help bring out the power of the port job. Some of these things i already had and some werent needed. 2 k&n pods($40 a piece) adjustable timing plate forgot the price 20cc domes for my NOSS head. I had 21's but went with 20cc domes. Port job was done for 93 octane pump gas outwear or whatever it's called for my pod filters. case saver(cheap insurance) 15t front sprocket I also went and bought countless other things that my shee didnt need that arent listed. But most of the things i listed are to bring out the portjob and get the best out of it. I didnt expect to spend, replace or buy as much as i did but in the end, it was well worth it the first time i felt the powerband. I did all the wrenching and work myself minus the actualy port work and flywheel lightening. It took me a while to tear it down and to rebuild it but it was my first time doing almost everything. Now i could do it faster of course. It was a learning process and a fun one at that. Sometimes frustraiting though. I might get it done to my 250 in the near future, oh boy! Atleast it wont need all sorts of supporting mods, just a heavyer flywheel haha. hope this helps! Edited July 16, 2007 by RagunCajun Quote
Jokerzwild Posted July 19, 2007 Author Report Posted July 19, 2007 Thanks guys so I need about 1500 for port work and the goodies to go with it and about 3500 if I go 4 mill, time to start saving the pennies. Quote
rocketboy Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 (edited) well it wont be that much difference in price IMO ...really the porting should cost nearly the same amount as a stock stroke only thing really thats gonna rack yo u is the crank cost and the stroker domes .generaly the additional power usually requires more of a beefier clutch with a longer swinger to keep the wheelies at bay Edited July 19, 2007 by rocketboy Quote
letsgetthisdone Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 someone is gonna feel insulted by this but.....you won't need a longer swinger if you know how to ride your damn bike. I have a F.A.S.T. 350 dune port and have no trouble keeping the frontend in check with 20x10x10 8 paddle haulers and a stock swinger. Its interesting from dead start when doing a hard launch, but nothing a lttle clutch finnesse and body movement can't take care of. And it keeps the bike agile for duning, whoops, jumping, and general riding if you leave the stock length swinger on it. JMO. Dune port: $375 Pipes: $500 (for T5's) stock carbs will be OK Bore/Hone: $90 Pistons/Rings etc: ~$150 top-end gasket kit: ~$30 heavy-duty clutch: ~$100 (EBC metal and fiber plates, stiffer springs) Crank true/weld: $50 various jets: ~$30 coolhead with domes: ~$250 bottom-end seal kit: ~$40 Quote

Glad to hear someone else say that, I repeatedly lost a drag race to a 250 honda with a shortened swinger. I had the horsepower, but his launches were better. When I asked him about his shortened swinger he laughed and said "buy a trike, learn to ride it, then buy a quad and shorten the arm" Ban Quote
