I ran a set of works shocks without rezzies on my bike for 4+ years, and I ride about maybe 6-8 weekends out of the year,(240-320 hours total) on just trails. I thought I needed them rebuilt, sent them back to works, and I was told they were fine. So I bought Elkas without rezzies for my build bike, and I would be happy to get the same amount out of them. I would have bought the rezzies but they added a shit ton of money on top of what I allready had to spend. On the rear shock I would say you definately need a rez because it is one shock doing all of the work, but in the front, for an average rider, I would say no, you probably don't need them up front, but from what I hear they are nice to have. I mean there are people out there riding stockers from 96, so anything is better then that.

i was told by shock experts that unless you jump or do moto cross very aggresive you really dont need rezzies.

just casual jumping regular dual rates will work fine.

I think if you get the Elka non-rezzies shocks. ( PB36 I think) You can send them back later and they will add a rezzie on your shock for some extra money. I would get the non-rezzie shocks now. then you can upgrade latter on if you think that you need the rezzie. You can look at the Elka web page to read more about this.

pretty sure it keeps the shocks cool by filtering the oil/ gas. i heard your body will be better off w ressies but who knows if this is true or not.

basically it is to cool the oil in the shock, having rezzies will increase the life of your shock, especially if you get the oil hot enough.

When I ride, I'll ride hard and long through some terrain that gives the shocks a hard workout, and if I didnt run rezzies I think my shocks wouldnt last as long as they have.

It all depends on your terrain and how long you'll ride without stopping. We'll ride for 4-6 hours at a time, with the longest we stop is for 3-5 minutes to get a drink every hour or so.

Cooling the oil is a side benefit, not the main purpose.

Shocks use oil for damping right? Well, with just plain oil thats not under pressure, it can foam up after being ridden a while and getting warm. Oil won't compress, but foam will. Once you get to that point, you will blow through your travel, and the shocks start to feel springy. Aftermarket shocks without rezzies are gas charged, which helps keep that from happening, but since the high pressure gas is in the oil, it still can happen.

When you have rezzies, the gas is separate from the oil. The oil can't foam up. Your shocks will stay more consistent for longer periods of time. The 2 side benefits are that there is more oil and larger surface areas which help cooling, and since oil is flowing in and out of the rezzie, you can have adjustable compression by controlling the flow rate of the oil in and out.

Id never get another pair of shocks without rezzies. If you ride aggressively, you'll notice a difference.

yes, but thats just because I dont like the idea of mixing oil and nitrogen. unless there is a floating piston in there to seperate the two. is there?
