Dinner Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 (edited) Hey guys, Was out riding the other day, shee starts 2 kick with choke, and away I go warming it up, taking it out for a ride. I go down the road to a friends place (running like normal) and shut it off, shut the fuel off (just a habit). It sits there for probably an hour and a half before I left to come home. Turn the fuel on, choke, starts right up. Let it warm up a bit then I start heading out the yard. I notice it doesn't sound like it always does, but it just sounded like it was cold, had a little less power...so i was taking it easy until it warmed up. Get about 50ft from the laneway...lights start to die, engine starts to bog, and then shee quits. Try starting it again..and you can hear it sparking, like that ping sound, but nothing. Push her home and then left it in the shop for awhile due to work. Just got working on it today...took apart the carbs, cleaned them all up, put that all back together. Took the spark plugs out, they are a dark/chocolate brown(been in there for awhile) and so I figure it's just the spark plugs...so i put an old pair in(not as gummed up)..they have spark, just not that good...still doesnt start. Soooo....the plugs are wet, so its getting fuel...its getting spark, because i can hear it/see it. But I would think that even if the spark plugs had a tiny spark it would at least start would it not?? Sometimes it will backfire like a mother every time I kick it over(that was when i had my pipes off). And I dunno, stores are all closed due to it being Canada Day holiday. But anything you guys can think of let me know, I would like to have this ol girl up and running. I'm hoping that it's just the plugs.... Thanks, Dinner Edited July 2, 2007 by Dinner Quote
2strokeme Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Check the wiring from under the thumb throttle cover. I had this same problem and one of the wires came loose. This will cause these problems. Also make sure that the choke tube is connected to both carbs. This is a common thing overlooked(learn from experience). Not saying these will fix it but something easy to check. Hope this helps a little. Quote

The wiring for my thumb throttle is no longer there, and the choke tube was in place(always make sure it is when i put the carbs all back together) Thanks for you suggestions though, I know how easy it is to forget something like that. Sometimes it's just not turning the fuel on I have it up and running right now, just went out for a ride. I took the set of plugs that were in it, took some fine sand paper and sanded in-between where the spark is. Put them back in and went outside to bump start it. Just pushed it with my hands, ran and would hop on and click it in gear. After the 3rd time she fired up and now she is running again  Quote
peterlocal22 Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 might want to think about getting some brand new plugs and set the correct gap. you probably already are doing this but i figured id say it just in case. glad to hear it running again Quote
. Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 if it continues to run poorly, especially after you put the new plugs in, might want to beware of an air leak. As long as its idling and stuff like it usually does you should be fine, but might want to take some carb cleaner and spray around the intake to see if the engine rev's Quote

Now the neighbours can enjoy me riding as well  if it continues to run poorly, especially after you put the new plugs in, might want to beware of an air leak. But when i'm in town I will get some more carb cleaner (I am out right now) and see what shee does. Thanks Guys  Quote
bansheefreak Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 check all your wiring might be a pinched peice somewhere .. check the wires going to the coil and check back by tail light i had a wire go bad there once.. was rubbing on something for sometime and decided to break.. Quote
RagunCajun Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 If you dont have the TORS(or unplugged it), make sure your tubing b/w the chokes are still there. Might be a long shot but i fought with my bike for 2 weeks just to realize that was half the problem. If it's getting fuel and fire, get someone to pull start you. Dump the clutch in 2nd gear once you get moving a good 15-20 mph. Quote

I had a 200x for the life of me we couldnt get this thing to run, and when we pull started it, it would run and I'd have to keep the rev's up a little to keep it running. Ended up destroying the engine because of an air leak underneath the P.O.S. one piece rubber intake (about a 3 inch crack) Ah....to be young and dumb Quote

Shee is running like a bat out of hell right now, and I'm going out riding most of the day tomorrow, so I'll get new plugs and all that tonight. Thanks guys  Quote
