Chrome or powdercoat

Getting things ready to tear my '99 down and do an color change and some mods...What will stand up better on the rear axle...chrome or powdercoat??? Will be ridden mainly in sand and on a MX track occasionally.

Chrome axles always look sweet, but powdercoating would be different as well. I think the chrome would hold up better though, imo.

Powdercoat will outlast chrome, and be a lot easier to take care of. A friend of mine takes the stock rear axles, and has a machine shop turn them down enough to remove the gold color, so that the axle has an almost chrome look, and then has it clear coated with PC. Chrome tends to rust, if not taken care of really well, and PC just needs to be hosed off, and wiped dry.

i pc'ed mine... going on 6 months, nothing has changed from the day it was done... but that goes for my whole frame as well

i ride nothing but sand and i ride a lot and my rear axle is chrome,and it does get beat up i usually re chorme once a season.no that u brought it up im thinking about a pc job on it.

I think it is all personal preference, chrome looks sweet, powder you can pick your color. They both at some point will come to an end and need to be redone. I personally have run both and feel that with proper care they both will last.
