you will want a screw in compression tester. To do a comp. test you will need to hold the throttle wide open with the key in off position....you do not want tthe bike to start. Kick until the compression does not go up anymore. and them repeat for the other side. You can either warm the bike up and do the test after it's warm or you can do a cold test where the engine is cold and then do a warn test....doing it that way you will see if you have a compression loss after it's warmed up....I like to do it that way.

Your gonna need a good tester, warm the bike up and shut it off. Pull out both plugs and hold the throttle wide open. Kick it over 5-10 times and it shouldn't go up anymore after 10 kicks.

Does your bike start without the plugs in?? Nah, good way of doing it, i dont personally care what cold cranking compresson is just because of the fact that you dont ride it around cold... But be advised that you have to kick a banshee over - until your legs exhausted! (More than 10 kicks for sure) Dont give up if you see it going up a little at a time. Is your bike stock?? head, pistons, rings, etc?? Is there a reason your doing a test? Losing power?

i figured i needed a compression tester that is a no brainer I was wondering what numbers i should be looking for good compression how high should the tester read or should i just be concerned with cylinder leak down i believe it is still stock bore my banshee will not start unless i spray staring fluid around the air filter i was wondering if i it needed the top end rebuilt seems to run fine with lots of power after it has started it just will not start with out the starting fluid may be it is the carbs i am just trying to figure it out any help thanks much also how much should a top end rebuild cost

Stock Cylinder Compression is 130.

How do you those spark plugs look?

how much higher should the compression go if its warmed up compared to cold or am i ass backwardsw here and it is higher cold?

i tested mine cold today, WOT and got 100 and 105 psi and im only up a couple hundred feet here. it just has pipes for now. im gonna rebould it anyway but i was just curious. i would go try it warm but my parents, not to mention the neighbors might not appreciate me letting it run with no silencers

oh and is the threaded part of the tester supposed to be the length of the spark plug threads? the one i used only has about a half inch of threads so could that work like a larger dome and make the guage read less? :geek:

Yes this will alter the results slightly....

I'm went up 5psi after warming her up & the gauge must sit where the plug sits..

You definately need a rebuild.

Depends on wether or not his tester is accurate.
