chronicwatson Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 i just put my new top end together and when i was done i did a leak test and it failed so what i want to know if it will be ok to put some flange sealent or rtv on the gaskets i don't want to have to buy 3 set's of top end gaskets so if this will help stop the leaks that would be great oh ya they where a metal/paper type any way thanks for any tips thanks Quote
RagunCajun Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 How do you do a leak test on the base gaskets? I just put my juggs back on today for the first time ever. I'm kinda curious. Quote

If they are the metal ones, use copper coat on them. Quote
87sheerips Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 So do you know the base gaskets are leaking. If they are the metal ones, use copper coat on them. I always use a little RTV on em, cant hurt. Cheap insurance if you ask me! Quote
chronicwatson Posted June 10, 2007 Author Report Posted June 10, 2007 on both sides of the gasket or just the tops and what is rtv really called? Quote
Snopczynski Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 I will try this again. So do you know the base gaskets are leaking? Quote
chronicwatson Posted June 11, 2007 Author Report Posted June 11, 2007 yes i found a leak like stated above is it RTV copper gasket Quote
dajogejr Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 Black hi temp rtv.... I use it on just about everything, orings, side covers, reed/intake gaskets... Did you spray soapy water around the base gaskets to find the leak? Reason why we're asking...is I'd hate to see you replace base gaskets if a crank and/or cases are leaking as well...that's all!! Snopczynski Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 yes i found a leak like stated above is it RTV copper gasket Ok, how did you find it? I understand you did a leak test, was there physically air squirting out of the base gasket, or did you spray it with soapy water and get bubbles? How much air did you pressurize it with? Quote
chronicwatson Posted June 11, 2007 Author Report Posted June 11, 2007 i did the test with 6 pounds of air and i sprayed the whole motor with soapy water and there where vary small bubbles comein out of the base gaskets. what should i use to seal the case's is flange sealent good? Quote
dajogejr Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 Yama or Honda bond for the cases. To seal the base gaskets just use hi temp RTV. Quote
chronicwatson Posted June 11, 2007 Author Report Posted June 11, 2007 should i use the RTV on both sides of the base gasket or just on the top or bottom and should i use the honda bond i heard that it was better plus there is only a honda dealer in my town. Canada sucks for getting parts and shit thanks chronicwatson Quote
dajogejr Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 Both sides, thin coat. The cases or the cylinder could have the imperfection.... Yama and Honda bond are the same stuff.... Quote
