FireHead Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 well i guess im gonna get another set of pistons and c if they do the same thing seeing how tha machinisttold me the piston was not the same it lost a thousand and 1/2 but in order to do that i will have to give up my super stockers and the extra 6 hp i will have to get some boost ports to make up diff.well thanx guys been verry helpful next time to rebuild i will b going to the cubs think theres much of a diff in horse power or torque? To reiterate what Brandon said, make sure you inspect your cylinders before you do anything further. If you do not know how to measure them properly, ask one of us. Quote

BlazinOne Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 what are calipers for brakes?i got some feeler gauges but i usually take them to a machine shop I.D micrometer is the only way.Don't go more than .003 on cast pistons or .004 on forged. If your motor builder sets it up with any more than that ,he is a motor butcher, not a motor builder. I've rebuilt over 20 banshee motors and never had one clanking on me.All it takes is one time for some dirt to pass and your top-end will be torched. Quote

blowit Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 what are calipers for brakes?i got some feeler gauges but i usually take them to a machine shop I think your best bet it to take them to an engine expert and spend the 10 bucks to have the holes checked properly. We inspect at about 6 points in the bore to check for taper and out of round. Only then can you compare this data to the piston dims to determine clearance. Brandon Quote

The inspection technique he describes is a bare minimum. As fishy as the whole deal sort of sounds, I think you need to find a way to root the problem in actual fact. Quote
