I don't think I'm the only person that has had problems with the sprocket hub getting loose and having some front/rear spin and play. I debated getting a new axle but figure wth that one might have the same issue so might as well just fix what I've got. My idea is to find a strong industrial grade pin and have a machine shop drill a hole through the hub/axle for the pin. I haven't tried to find a pin that would be strong enough for this yet but I know somethin's gotta be out there.

I personally wouldnt drill a hold through my axle. I wouldnt like the idea of weakning the axle.

Ya that is another thought, well I'm gonna try it I think and if I don't like it I'll get with you (theshee) for that axle and stuff we talked about if you still have it. Give me just a day or two and it should be done.

You may as well give it a try. Just make sure you find a really strong pin to put in there.

only drill a 1/4 way through the axle.

 

if youre serious about this let me know, I know where you can get some cheap machining done. like $20/hr. try finding that somewhere else.

Ya that would be better for the integrity of everything, but I planned on having the pin tight in the hole and how would you get it out if you can't beat it through.

 

I can probably get the work done free, or might just do it myself on a drill press. New axles are cheap so I figure it's worth a shot just to try.

Thread your hole and use a shoulder bolt. then ream the hub to within .0002" of the bolts diameter. It needs to be very tight and round, something youre probably not going to find on a drill press.

Why not drill a hole in just the sprocket hub, then tap it and put a bolt in it that sticks out the other side and tensions the hub?

JB Weld on the splines assemble wet, then let it dry. You probably won't find much of a longer term fix. If you want to disassemble it, heat the part up with a torch, diassemble, clean, lather, rinse, repeat.

 

After doing that a few times you will replace the worn parts because you will have realized doing all that is gets gay really quick.

for some reason drilling thru the axle doesnt sound like a good idea to me.. how are drag axles setup? keywayed??

My drag axle is set up with love and sunshine. I don't know about anyone else's. :ermm:

Always. Last time I had my Axcalibur out there was also play in the LH bearing race, machine shop wouldn't touch it (build up with a weld and machine down to fit). If welding is bad drilling is prolly worse. I'm doin' loctite for now, a new axle later, and checkin' it after every ride in between.

 

My drag axle is set up with love and sunshine. I don't know about anyone else's. :ermm:

Mine's loctited now to where it won't come off, Ima have to heat it up some I guess.

 

My question is what stops the hub from spinning completely around, the splines between the two are pretty small but I'm getting 1/4" of rotation.
