OK, trying to button up this rebuild... I cant get the kickstart to engage properly.

where does the tab on the spring go?? I see a couple locations for it to sit, but neither of them seem right. When i go to kick it over, the gear passes the main gear on the basket. Seems like i need that back spring in the right place. If anyone has a pic of how it sits, that would be great!!

Also, i lost my position on the set screw for the clutch adjustment. Is there a good rule of thumb here so i can just adjust with the perch? (maybe like once you feel tension, 2 turns, 3 turns whatever.)

My manual does not go into any of this detail, so i need you guys here! Thanks alot,

simple answer to question number 1 there is a groove for the clip to go in on the right side of where the starter mechanism goes. in that hole it will fit perfectly and thats where it goes. as for the problem of your passing the gear it will do that up until the time you put on the side case cover because the return spring or the one that gives it tention is not held in place. the second one is really not my area of expertiese but from what i know you put the set screw to where there is no play on the clutch lever when all hooked up and then back it off half a turn then put on the outside nut and washer and adjust the rest on the top.

Don't go too tight on your pressure plate. you don't want to weld the ball to the push rod. when you look at the top of the case where the clutch lever is there will be a triangle. When the clutch is fully disengaged (clutch pulled) the arrow will line up with the lever.

The kick starter spring fits in a "c" shaped notch to the right of where the start shaft goes into the case.

the end of the spring on the kick starter goes into a c shaped groove in the case thats at about the 10 o-clock position from the kick starter shaft. to adjust your clutch you need to loosten the set nut and turn the philips head screw in or out untill the arrow on your clutch arm lines up with the arrow on the top of your case. then adjust your clutch lever so it has about 1/16 - 1/8 play in it at the perch...if you dont already have a clymer manual it explains how to adjust it in there...
