Chest protectors

The place I go riding at on the weekends has now decided that a chest protector is mandatory on the MX tracks (damn insurance fools). Its stupid if you ask me, since chest protectors were originally designed for roost, not protecting your ribs in the event of a crash. I really don't want one, but since I must, I was wondering if anybody has any experience with them. Basically I want a cheap one that is comfortable and I won't notice is there. So anybody got any ideas?

i know some places make you wear the plastic gay ones. but if thats not the case check out fox or i think its shift they have the under jersey soft ones that are pretty comfortable for a chest protector. hope that helps some ill try to find a link.

Cool, thanks. That MSR one was what I was thinking of. I skimmed through RMATV, but I guess I missed it.

 

This place is pretty relaxed (Durhamtown Plantation), so I doubt they'll really care what kind it is as long as you have one. They didn't use to even care about boots. They've had to get stricter over the past 6 months or so because some asshole parents sued after their kid died. No Im not being thoughtless either, these parents got Fox to do an expose on the place, and tried to make it look like it was a death trap. Honestly after I saw the piece when it was aired, it made me sick the way they acted, they never even looked sad. All they wanted was somebody to blame because it couldn't be their kids fault. He had never been on a MX track ever, and decided to hit the freestyle ramp. With his parents right there doing nothing to stop him. ::

You complain now but believe me my chest protector has saved my ass from more than just roost. Been in some nasty tumbles and you should see the dents and scratches on the thing its scary. Worth every penny and you forget its there after awhile.

Yeah man, if you take a tumble you wont regret having one. I wear one while sledding and everything, deffinetly worth the $$$.

The plastic protectors are alot tougher than you think.

I'm pretty sure I would have broken my collar bone when I had my wreck.

I hit a steel railing with my shoulder.All it did was barely crack the protector.

I was extremely sore but that's better than broken bones.They are worth the money.

After seeing how yours saved you I am a firm believer in chest protectors. I could have sworn you broke something from the impact....It held up against a steel guardrail, I imagine it would provide the same protection against a tree. If I ever raced through the woods or on a track I'd definitely get one.

 

There's nothing gay about wearing a chest protector...what would be gay is someone getting hurt pretty bad because they're worried about how they look and not wearing the proper gear. Accidents do happen, even the best take a spill when their time comes... :shrug:

This is what I wear and it's a life saver. Chest, shoulder, elbow, forearm, back plates, and kidney belt all in one and it's pretty light. This covers better than about anything out there, nobody is invincible the way I see it. I've got 2 small kid to support so looking gay or not is my last concern.

I like the Thor and O NEAL ones they never let me down. MSR Ones are nice too. my old MSR chest protector looks like its been through a war. But I rather the plastic protecting my chest being broken in shards than my ribs. And yes they were designed for more than just stoping roost.

 

Next one I buy will be one like diffrentstrokes has. I ride on some harsh terrain and long steep hills twisted turned out all of that crazy shit and rocks can be pretty unforgiving.

I rock a EVS under the jersey chest protector. Let me tell u. It saved my ass many times. Offers more padding then the usual roost protectors and honestly I forget that i'm wearing it sometimes. I seriously recommend it.

cheast protecters save lifes. My friend decided to ramp his craptor of a 30 meter heavy nife edge dune (jump from top of dune down) hit it about 50 kph and did a nose dive, he wore a cheast protecter and his back and cheast hardly hurt after the jump, broke his arm though . any way i wear a Thor X and there real comfy and after the first 1/2 hour you hardly feel it on you coz it weighs like 600 grams or something
