The plastic gear, is what turns the impellar, and as far as I know, you have to use the plastic one from Yamaha. The impellar is also plastic, and if you're replacing the gear, you might as well get the billet impellar, so you have one less worry in the future. Quote
Snopczynski Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 The plastic gear is white, this is only replaceable as a factory yamaha part. The piece that is green is the impeeler, and can be replaced with a billet one. Quote
RoostRocket Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 the pro design ones are very high quality. if i were you i would stay away from the modquad ones i hear alot of bad things about them . Quote

One thing to remember is, because of that dumb idea of the plastic impeller drive gear, if the water pump bearings start going south, that gear will shear right off and you will totally lose cooling. Make sure the bearings are in good condition. Brandon Quote
5150banshee Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 if your gonna replace the water pump impeler and gear u should replace the bearing also. Quote

RoostRocket Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 while your in there you might as well do a complete rebuild...j/k  Quote
MILO Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 i didn't replace the gear, but i did replace the impeller, seal and bearing altogether when i did mine. the seal and bearing are cheap and easy to install. do it right the first time bud. oh yeah, and don't forget new gaskets for the side cover too.
