skyhigh91 Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 Hey everybody, long time reader first time posting. Read lots of good info on these forums, so I figure you guys can help me. I asked my local yamaha shop about Banshees and he said "Whats a banshee" so they were absolutely no help, so I have to look elsewhere. I have a 2001 banshee, stock carbs, with K&N pods, 340 mains, stock pilots, FMF needles (came with the jet kit) on the 3rd clip, FMF fatty pipes, FMF powercore silencers. My problem is I just installed the jet kit (with the 340 mains & needles) pipes, silencers, it fired right up, idled fine, reved fine, took it for a rip down the road and back (like 2 min riding) quad went like a raped snake, so I figured something was wrong, got back to the yard and could smell coolant. So I looked at the motor and the line on top of the motor was popped off spraying coolant everywhere. So I shut it off pushed it to the shop, pulled the plugs and the clutch side was perfect tan/brown, but the throttle side was white, took my carbs apart one at a time checked the needle height, jets, cleaned everything and re-assembled. Both carbs are the same and i'm pretty sure I didn't mix up carb peices. I also made sure the carbs were in sync. So I need to know why the throttle side is white? Not enough fuel, too much air? Did I mess up er what? Made sure little black hose was put back on between carbs. With quad running I sprayed carb cleaner around the carb boots, with no change in motor sound. I run my fuel mixture @ 40:1. SOOOO I just am wondering why the throttle side is white? It shouldn't be lean with 340's. With bigger jets does it create more heat? Elevation is about 2500 feet. Sorry about the long post, just wanted to cover everything. Thanks Adam. Quote

skyhigh91 Posted May 15, 2007 Author Report Posted May 15, 2007 Anybody else running different jet sizes, cause im running a 340 on clutch side and a 350 on the throttle side, did a plug chop and this setup looks like it works. Just wondering if anybody has to do this? Quote
Animalman294 Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 If you have to do that, something is definately wrong. You need to start over with your carbs and get each circuit dialed in, with the same sized jets.................. Quote
sheefreak Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 May want to think about the possibility of an air leak as well. Quote
skyhigh91 Posted May 16, 2007 Author Report Posted May 16, 2007 Yah, did a compression test, after 5 kicks, it was 75 on the throttle side and 95 on the clutch side, I think its rebuild time. DAMMIT Quote
