RIPRuck Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 I'll be installing my K&N pods with outterwears tomorrow but noticed when removing the air box that it helped support the carbs! The air box hooked into these hooks on the frame to put pressure on the carbs to keep them from falling I'm guessing. What do yous use or will I even need anything? TIA Quote
theshee Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 The rubber in the intake holds it fine. Ive got big ass filters and 35mm carbs and they arent going anywhere. It will work fine for you, no worries! Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 You might want to cut those hooks you're talking about. The inner frame pegs that hold the airbox. Those pegs will rub holes into your outerwears! Quote
RIPRuck Posted April 14, 2007 Author Report Posted April 14, 2007 Thanks.. I'll cut those hooks off to save the outterwears like you said. I was just worried the pods which are 6" would put too much force on the carbs and cause them to fall off. Now lets just hope the 300's I'll be putting in are big enuff! Quote
theshee Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 Those 6"ers will stay fine. Mine are way big and hang fine. Quote

If you're anywhere near sea level they won't be... Typically run 330s to 340s with the T5's and pod filters, at or near sea level....60 to 80 degrees. Bigger for colder temps. Quote
RIPRuck Posted April 14, 2007 Author Report Posted April 14, 2007 Earthtools says I'm 115ft above sea level.. Jeff at fast asked where I was located and suggested 300 mains 30 pilots and needle on the 4th clip.. Should I go buy larger mains? Quote

Jeff at fast asked where I was located and suggested 300 mains 30 pilots and needle on the 4th clip.. Should I go buy larger mains? We're less than 800 feet above sea level here in MI, ride in 60 to 80 temps.... I've jetted 4 bikes in the last two years with Pod filters and T5 pipes. They ranged from 330 to 350, all stock port, stock motor bikes, one of which was my own personal 96... At higher elevations 300 might be ok...but I think you're safer to start with a 330 and go from there. Here's the way to find out for sure! http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/plugchop.html Quote
RIPRuck Posted April 14, 2007 Author Report Posted April 14, 2007 (edited) Thanks for the pics, I'll be sure to cut those off tomorrow. As for the Mains I'll grab some 330's and 40's as soon as my local shop opens in the morn. I bought the bike a month ago with T5's as the only upgrade and as far as jets they had 270 mains and 25 pilots.. The last two weeks I been installing all the other upgrades which is the Noss heads with 21cc domes, boss intake, v-force 3 reeds, timing advanced +4 and the pods. Tomorrow I'll be finishing it up and starting her for the first time will the upgrades. I guess I should have realized since it ran great in the upper RPM's before but was really rich in the lower RPM's that I should have jumped way higher on the mains with these upgrades. Will the 30's for pilots be ok or should I change? Thanks for all the help guys! Edited April 14, 2007 by RIPRuck Quote
seabass Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 How's the bike coming along? Just wanted to say, DON"T cut those brackets off yet. You might want to put that airbox on eventually. Your engine will eat some big time mud and dirt around here. Just my two cents. Quote

I really try to stay away from mud even with the box. Tomorrow will be the day I find out. Hows your rebuild comming? Is everything running good? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 i rode at about the same altitude you are at... when i had stock carbs i ran 320's and i had my air box on without a lid... your going to probly need around that maybe 1 or 2 bigger. Quote

seabass Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 This thing RIPS!!!!! It's all set. The reason I say this is because I have a K&N, outerwears, airbox and lid. Everytime I come home, this thing is FILTHY. I never go out thinking I'm going to hit mud and water but it is inevitable around here. I'm the only other one around here with the two stroke to represent! Don't let some dirt and water kill your bike. Shoot me a PM when your ready to rip. Quote
