so my banshee starts WAY to easy when its cold... barely need the choke... but when it gets hot, it wont start... unless you give it a tiny bit of throttle.... and it seems to load up a lot and sputter in first and second most of the way through the powerband, but once i get to like 3456 it clears up completely by 4th and so on... likes the pilot is so rich it loads up the bike while riding? sound like i need to dump my pilot some more?

Mods, carbs, elevation, temps and current jet in there now...please.

Sorry Nick...I know I've read it before, but...it's all kinda a blur for me...:)

It sounds like you need to lean the pilot a size or two, but have you used the full adjustment of the air screws already??? (Normally 1.0 to 2.5 turns out??)

agreed. What u describe is a rich condition not a lean one. What is the screw set at now?

oh man. i forgot. the 42 pilots have been in it... and the air screw is 1.5 out... could i possibly have to dip into the 30's on a 4mil w carbs? ive never heard ppl doing that before??

If you're confident there are no air leaks, then I'd say throw the 42s in there. Normally...I see 45 to 50 in bigger motors and a cub. However, they normally do NOT run an airbox, which you are. I think 42 will get you pretty much where you need to be.

Nick...if it makes you feel any better, I used to leave my pilots a hair rich anyways, I'm sometimes too lazy to pull the chokes....and since I drag race 90% of the time, I never see idle.....WOT or get off the pot man...

ive checked airleaks with the carb cleaner trick, so if it had one, i sure as hell cant find it... unless it leaks from the case..... but if that was the deal, would my gear oil be funny?

ah shit. i hope its not doing that... sometimes my top end is crummy, but not all the time... it seems like it comes and goes depending on how im riding... if im flat out balls to the wall down the road.... it clears up its little pissy fit and just hauls the mail... but if im in a the woods, screwing off, and come out to the road and jump on it, it will spit some then finally in about 3rd or 4th take off wihout spitting.. i hope its not a leak in my case.

Well...it sounds like the lower jetting circuits are probably too rich.

However, I know you just built that not too long ago.

for 30 to 50 bucks, you can make your own leak down tester or buy one.

It might not be a bad idea for piece of mind....

Nick, I try to err on the side of caution....and I'd rather have you waste 50 bucks on a tester than 500 to 1000 on a new crank, top end, gaskests...etc.

yes your pilot is too big. so whats in there right now? 42 or 45? drop down another size. also, have you done a plug check lately? that main jet seems pretty big for your setup. i usually see 158 to 162 on setups very similar to that...

well since it was cooler lastnight, i took it out.. holy hell. its not really a banshee anymore. Jeff gets a freaking A+ on this motor. bring on all the pussy big bore banshees. ive got a present for ya.

Did you just call out all the big bore cubs? I kinda have the same problem you did, a little sputter through the first 3 gears. I am going to drop my pilot a size to see what it does.
