shanYE west Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I've seen it done before. You got to make a platform that sits ontop of your bed. The guy I was talking to made it out of square tubing and Ply wood. He made the platform big enough for his quads. Then he used the square tubing welded to the platform and ran that down into the corner stake pockets of the bed about 6 inches to keep it from moving around too much. Then underneath he put some eye hooks and used ratchet tie downs to secure it to the bed. Worked really well and looked pretty clean. I wish I had a picture of it, I can't explain anything for Sh@#t. It looks like you just need to be handy with a welder and have some exta ply wood and you can think of somthing. Quote
sand4ever Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I have a friend that made a rack that goes into the side pockets. It was for a 1/2 ton shortbed and fit two banshees. It only stuck over the tailgate by about 6 inches. They sat sideways and he make it out of tubing. It wasn't that heavy as one strong person could put it on. But I also wish I would have taken a pic of it. you get the idea. Quote
burleybanshee Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I did it for years until we got our toy hauler. I would push the banshee in the back of the truck rear end first. Stand it up and roll it on its rear wheels until the grab bar hit the front of the bed. Then did the same thing with my wife's raptor 660 but when i got half way up the ramp I would have to lift the front end up and stand it up once the rear wheels got inside the bed off the tail gate. Rolled it back up to the banshee and tied them down to the respective corners first so they are pulling away from each other, not to ride on or wear against each other. Then I stapped them, to each other to hold them in place and make the tie down ridgid. This is something I did by myself but if you have another, it makes it a lot easier. Use better tie downs than harbor frieght cheapies, there's more force and weight loads on the straps doing it this way but it works. Still had room around the quads to load fire wood, fuel tanks for pismo. Have a 37 foot sandpiper now, its a lot easier on this 37 year body. Good luck, have fun at pismo. Quote
Animalman294 Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Ya, I pull a 15 foot trailer behind my fiver and in Cali I needed a class A license to pull a set of doubles. It sucked but I don't have to take two tow vehicles now.............. Quote
Dave I. Posted March 21, 2007 Author Report Posted March 21, 2007 Thanks for the ideas guys. I will have to load them up and see how it works out with the tail gate down trying to hookup to the trailer..... Dave Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 I've crammed two quads in a half ton short bed, a Blaster & Banshee and the same way with two Banshees like this: BUT you're not gonna get the tailgate up...and ya gotta be careful getting the front one up & down or you're gonna pop that back window. Plus after riding all day or a race ya really don't feel like hefting that bitch up again heh. I finally got a 5x12 trailer this year for $700 to pull 'em, I've seen a truck pulling two trailers around here too like MDS2106 said, you might check with your state DMV and see if they will let you do that, the 3/4 ton oughta handle it... This is the idea I was trying to kick, not sideways. The make tailgate extending rails for the trucks. I've also seen rails for the trucks where you can drive the atv to the top of the rail thru ramps. I've seen a website who sells these rails made for this stuff.. Quote
