BansheeKid15 Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 I pulled off my head to have a look inside the motor because it was out and i wanted to see inside and make sure nothing was scraping and such. So i took the head off then 5 minutes later i put it back on, but put a small layer of pyrex on it to help it seal a little better. Then torqued it in the bolt pattern 25lbs each. My question is, should anything have changed by me just pulling the head off? Should i buy a new head gasket (motor is in the bike now, but i can still do it) It ran fine before, should anything be different now? Here is the pic, i dont know much about atv engines, but if they are anything like car engines then i should be good. Just to double check for stock heads, they use the metal gasket which is on the top of the jugs in the pic? Also when the head was already tightened down and i had just put it back into the bike, there was a little bit of anti-freeze that was on the top of the exhaust flange thing (the left side in the pic, where your pipes actually connect into) Any advice is appreciated, Jamie Quote
Matt96shee Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 hey man, here's my advice....put a new headgasket on there. i say that because if you look at a new gasket, it has "ribs" in it that i think are there to compress and help it seal. if you're doin' it, might as well do it right. Quote
scooter Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 use new gaskets.you wouldnt reuse a head gasket on a car, and i wouldnt on my shee.there not that much money do it right Quote
theshee Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Yup, put a new gasket on there. Its cheap and well worth it. Quote

BansheeKid15 Posted March 15, 2007 Author Report Posted March 15, 2007 (edited) The only thing i have to get is the metal gasket right, on the stock head there are no o rings... those are just on the aftermarket cool heads? Just wanna make one trip and pull it off once. This site is great, i would be pretty lost without reading these forums... and its a good way not to study for calc  As long as it was a ligitimate question, and i already have some sort of an answer... dont worry about jacking my thread  Thanks all! Bansh-eman Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 Not trying to steal your thread. but i have a question about aftermarket heads. Would i have to buy new o-rings or just use the ones i already have. for you r/atv you can inspect the orings for any rips or taers and "could" reuse them if say you where out at glamis and had nothing else but if you have the means... get new o rings.. once you flatten them and run the motor they are no longer round and now they have formed them selfs to seal your head... trying to reuse them your never going to get a perfect seal becasue they are already shaped to the first time they where torqued down... for as cheap as they are buy new one and have the assurance that you did it right... not habiong to worry 4 miles out in glamis is well worth a few bucks Quote
