ok guys im stumped on this one me and my bro-inlaw just did complete rebuild on his banshee here is what all was done it was a stock shee with fmf pipes we added a stock stroke hotrod crank trail ported cylinders and a tors removal kit all new seals thru out the motor and +4 timing it is running real lean on the left cylinder but is running raw fuel out from the head pipe on that side(i guess it 2 stroke oil and not crank case oil its real black the gear oil is still clean) we have tried switching out my carbs and intake boots from my shee but still have the same results plug chop looks great on the right side but is real lean on the left and has a sputter to it on that cyl. it started running like shit after the tors where removed before the tear down to do the rest of the engine but we corected the problem with the carbs after we turned the slides around the right way but was running lean on the left side after that we figured we would get it right after the rebuild but cant figure out the problem gonna try to find the stuff to do a leak down test on it tomorrow but we need help in a bad way on this one its killing us thanks ahead of time for any help you can give thanks

Try switching the spark plug wires and see if the same cylinder persist.. equalizer tube between the carbs on??? New plugs? How were the reeds? Disconnect the tors brain? (little black box above the left exhaust w/ a 3-wire plug)

You say oil is coming out from the header pipe???? Where the header goes onto the cylinder??? Then your o-ring in the header pipe is gone or never put it in. That'll affect a lot of the symptoms your describing. Change that o-ring and go from there. It has to be a high temp o-ring.....

we put new seals in with the new hotrod crank and checked and replaced the o-ring in the exaust they are new also i think he gave up and sent it to the stealership looking at atleast two weeks before he gets it back

You gave up before spending 12 dollars in parts to do a pressure test? Anyway, you probably have a head gasket leak. I had one where I pinched a o-ring on a cool-head and would spew black shit out the pipe and spark plug was backing out(detonation/lean condition) but was rich as hell on the right side. Did you tork all the head bolts in 2 stages? Did you use new head gasket?

man, that sounds just like what mine did. here's what i found when i rebuilt it.

1) crank seal was in backwards....not sure what effect that had but it couldn't be good.

2) the 2 studs in the very front of the head were slightly longer than the rest. you'd hit the end of the threads before it was torqued down. I had to add and extra washer to get it tight. you could see the blowby across the gasket and into the water jacket from this!

3) i was double super extra meticulous when resealing the cases with yamabond.

4) i guess it's worth noting, i used gaskets on the jug bases that had sealant on them, the old ones were just the paper type.

once i did all this, it fired right up and ran good!

oh, check those stupid slides!!! i went round and round with them. hell, at one point it ran better with them in backwards!!!! i think due to some or part of all 1-4.

good luck,

matt
