Im pretty new to 2 strokes so i hope i can learn alot from this site.

I have a 2000 shee with the TORS removed K&N with snorkle removed and FMF pipes.

I went riding today 45 degrees about 2500ft i cant keep make it idle on its own.

It runs great all through the gears but it stalls if i dont keep gassin her.

I got it all stock a month ago, i cleaned out the carbs and put 280 mains in and changed out the needles with the FMF jet kit i bought. The plugs are black some what dry. I have the A/F screws half turn out.

Its really hard to start without giving throttle at the same time, is this normal?

I am thinking i have to grind the posts along side of the carbs down more so the idle screws go in to the slides more.

Thanks!!

Your runnin' a lid on that air box? If so, your probably a size high on the mains, should be 260s or 270s, probably 260s since your elevation is so high.

Also, what size pilots are you runnin? FMFs like a 27.5 or 25. I'd stay with a 25, and mess around with the air screw a bit, then set the idle using the screws on top of the caps. A little playing around and you should be good to go.

A lot of people will say banshees don't idle, don't listen to them! You should be able to idle for at least 20 min. or so before it cuts out.

Thanks guys. I have the stock pilots in there, what are they anyway? She will start after 2 kicks but i have to give a little throttle at the same time, is this normal or should it start without giving throttle?

I did notice that i would get a back fire when i was trying to get it to idle, maybe thats because im to rich.

Make sure you have no air leaks, carbs are in sync, stock pilot is a 25. Adjust your air screws, make sure the equalizer tube between the carbs is in place, carb slides are in the correct carb (cutaway in the slide should face the air box)....Check your compression, you may be ready for a rebuild...low compression will start hard.

Stock are 25(if I remember right), sounds like you just need to raise the idle, you should have the idle screws tapped into the side of the carbs. Try turning them each 1/4 turn at a time until you can idle.

on the idle screws

i had to file/grind a good amount off the side of the body in order for the screws to actually affect the idle.

not just file the angle flush

i believe it was a measurement of 3/4" from inside bore to jamb nut surface

if u go to toomey web site

on home page ..scroll to bottom and click on tech documents it will have the instruction for idle screws

you probally don't have enough material taken off 4 the idle screws to affect idle
