bigboybanshee Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 If your float height is set to proper spec, can they still stick? I had a float stick on me twice yesterday, and I wasn't sure if it's because it was cold out and things just weren't moving properly, or maybe the float got out of adjustment. Last time I checked it, it was set correctly...and all I had to do was tap the side of the carb with a screwdriver and it came un-stuck. Is there anything I can do/replace to help prevent this from happening again? It's really not a big deal, I just don't want to be on a long ride and realize half my gas is gone because it's been flying out the overflow, LOL Quote
okbeast Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 I've noticed this too. Damn near everytime I'm done ridin I tear the carbs down and clean everything and make sure everything is set right, but then when I go and turn the gas on the next time some leaks out, and sometimes tapping on the side helps and sometimes it doesn't. Maybe all new floats/springs would help? Quote
bigboybanshee Posted March 6, 2007 Author Report Posted March 6, 2007 I'm really glad to hear I'm not the only one having this kind of problem. Maybe someone will know an easy fix  Quote
Banchetta Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Correct float height doesn't matter. The little needle valve that the floats move is sticking...Try blowing some air through that passage.. you might have some shit in there. A lot of times old gas or sentiment will cause this. Even a single grain of sand.. Quote

black sunshine Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 also check for a wear ring on the needle/seat that the float operates. If it is grooved, that may be worn out and need to be replaced! Quote
rriggs Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 my stock mikuni's did that too...after hours of float height setting and farting around with it, i noticed one of the floats were tweaked a little..just enough to hang up on the side of the bowl..hope you get it figured out..price of fuel sucks to be draining all over the ground...not to mention pushing your ass off due to running out of fuel...LOL Quote
dajogejr Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 also check for a wear ring on the needle/seat that the float operates. If it is grooved, that may be worn out and need to be replaced! Yep...well said. I worked on jmkampala's bike at his house, he's got like 5 or 6 carbs (stockers) there now.... He said the one side was leaking, and the float was perfect. There was a wear ring around the rubberized part of the needle. Got a needle in there that looked much better, no leaks. Trav...try brake clean and compressed air, as said.... Quote

I planned to tear into it this weekend. I might just go ahead and replace those parts anyhow just to be certain; can't hurt! Quote
LiftdT4R Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Yeah, I was gonna say, just replace the fuel valve that's in there, they are dirt cheap from the stealership. I had the same problem, and I guess the spring just wears out, or shit gets stuck in it, just replace it, and you should be good to go. Quote
