hollisatp Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 Anyone use this stator? I am thinking about purchasing it. It is a 250 watt stator... My question is will it burn out my lights if I use 55w bulbs? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 no you have a little silver squar box screwed right next to your cdi... thats your electrical regulator... that will keep your lights and other components from burning out ... thats of course assuming that its working right to be honest id say get a 200w ricky stator.. they are more then enough power... hollisatp Posted February 23, 2007 Author Report Posted February 23, 2007 yeah but for the price and to get another 50w why not? unless there is something wrong with the brand? Quote
magunit420 Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 yeah but for the price and to get another 50w why not? unless there is something wrong with the brand? Does tha regulator protect the CDI in anyway? Quote
hollisatp Posted February 23, 2007 Author Report Posted February 23, 2007 how many watts do the plugs take to fire? Out of 250w, whats the largest size bulbs I can use? Quote
dajogejr Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 The ignition side and the lighting side of the stator are completely different.... I've never heard of an Electrex stator, but everyone and their brother has heard of Ricky Stator. Some have reported problems with their 200W setup...I personally don't run lights, so...when i bought an all new ignition, I got a run of the mill stock W stator.... RS is very, very good about warranty and customer service. I've talked to Ricky on the phone personally...and he was as nice and personable as could be!!! The regulator does not effect the CDI at all...it is for the lighting only. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 The regulator does not effect the CDI at all...it is for the lighting only. im not sure thats 100% accuate dave.... the regulator plugs into that blue wire that goes into your cdi if i remember correctly? then from there all your power goes to coil and lights? im no electrican by any account... and im trying to go off of what i remember reading and seeing in diamgrams while redoing my wire harness... could be wrong? hollisatp Posted February 23, 2007 Author Report Posted February 23, 2007 (edited) so do I need a stator to run my machine? I have been waiting for one to get it back together and tuned.... can I just run without it for now? I dont think that sounds right either??? Edited February 23, 2007 by hollisatp Quote
Bansh-eman Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 no no you need a stator... thats what generates your electricity toi power your bike... Quote
hollisatp Posted February 23, 2007 Author Report Posted February 23, 2007 Yeah, thats what I thought...... they sell the stator in RMATV for $165 for a 250w model, they also have a 270w model. But back to one of my original questions, how much power does the bike use for spark and what is left for the lights? What about a CDI upgrade? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 im not sure of the exact amount it takes to power the ignition system... but i know that a 200w stator powers a set of 55w trailtech lights and my ignition with dyna cdi and a nology coil fine... Quote
hollisatp Posted February 23, 2007 Author Report Posted February 23, 2007 Performance wise, what do the better CDI and coils help with? Obviously a stronger spark from the wires, anything else? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 (edited) the cdi doesnt make any stronger spark... a coil will, the cdi if programable can have your timing advancement or retarded controled over your rpm curve ... where as a timing plate is static...meaning +4 degrees at 1000 rpm and +4 degrees at 9000rpm where the programable cdi comes into play... you can advance your timing like +15 at low rpms to get that bottom end your bike lacks then as your rpm range climbs the amount of advancement decreases to give you back some of the top end timing that you cant get from the static plate... I can tell you I ran my bike all year last year...no recitifier, no lights....and it ran just fine no issues. So...it may or may not hook into the CDI, or...it may hook into the CDI for ground purposes. But, I'd think if were important to the CDI, the bike wouldn't run, or would run poorly... I can tell you neither of those were the case in mine last year, both with a stock CDI and my Dyna... Quote
