fast660r Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 Hey, New to this site and I am very impressed with the BANSHEE support I see on here. Anyways My first banshee and i am diggin it! I have a blaster also but it is not near as tempermental as this beast. I just bought it used 1997 and was running fine before purshase now it backfires out of right side only at idle or just a little more. I have pulled both carbs cleaned and checked float levels, checked intake boots also reeds. This bike came from Montana and I am up near the Seattle area(elevation????) . I dont know I have been at this for a week straight and cant fix it. Help me!! Quote
peak-j Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 Mine did that when I got it, all it ended up being was a dirty carb. Ran great half and wide open but low speeds it would blow a loud blast of air out the left side. It didn't really make a pop like a backfire. Is this what yours is doing? It also didn't have much pressure coming out of that side at idle. Quote

It also didn't have much pressure coming out of that side at idle. You have called it very low pressure out of the right side and it will actually backfire at very low rpm. I must have tore this carb apart 25 time this week and it is almost polished. This bike will run likea bat out hell at half and full throttle. ?????????????????????????? :: :: :: :: Quote
dajogejr Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 Fresh plugs and gas? Removed the TORS on a bike last night, fired it up...and it had BR9ES plugs (wrong heat, should be 8).. So I gave him some slightly used BR8EIX plugs from my stash (Irridium) and poof...backfire was gone. Quote

Good point...you're also very, VERY high up in elevation...which, require a 9 if I'm not mistaken. At or near sea level on gas...8 is the way to go!!! I agree...however, comp and leakdown test is a good idea.... I was nervous working on that bike last night because someone else just put it all back together, started right up, but a big time backfire out the left side....looked at his plugs, they were fouled up big time...was a relief to see it /hear it run better once I put in some better plugs!! No good brand new number 8's and it still wont idol and backfires out of right side nothing changed. Do you commonly use any sealant on the rubber boots? The idol is very unconsistant, If i holdthe thrrottle just enough to keep it running it almost dies and revs right back up again. If i do throttle the bike it is responsive but as soon as i am off the throttle no idol. I am convinced it is a leak but I cant find it. I tried something else while it was running I put my hand just over the left carb and could feel the suctiion where I could feel only very little out of the right carb.? Let me know what ya think and well keep at it. Edited February 25, 2007 by fast660r Quote

LIM_Whiteboy4life Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 look under the fuel tank there is a little black box should be on the left unplug it and start it up. I had a back fire were it would not start at all and i ordered the TORS kit from fast, or any other place that is well known for there support to get rid of those nasty carb tops and drill/tap idle screws on the sides of the carb don't be scared to do it the best way is to take everything off the carb lay flat on a drill press and take it slow then tap it and file the screw base flat and about 2mm of material needs to be taken off with the file for the screws to hit the carb slide ramp. Unplug the box first and see if it runs the tors kit is just easier on the eyes and hands adjusting things. Good luck. Quote
