dave95.1 Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 I wanna know where you guys are getting 5k+ drawing programs at home. I guess its a work share program. I personally use Pro E and like it alot. I really have never used the others my co supports all pro e applications and some auto cad stuff but that is mostly for facilities 2 d work. My Pro-E is a student version that was given to me. I think it runs around $200. You can do everything the same as the professional version except plots. When you run a plot it puts stamps all over it saying for student use only. My AutoCAD, Inventor, and SolidWorks I won at a SkillsUSA contest when I was still in school. The AutoCAD and Inventor are the professional version and legal. Quote
FireHead Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 Firehead, you wanna shoot me a copy of Solidworks 06? Pretty Please? Or any ideas on where I can get it for free? I only know where to get SolidWorks 2007 Premium. You can download a torrent file of at www.isohunt.com. That's where my buddy from work got it. You should be able to get in there faster than I can send it to you. Quote

I have a VPN set up between my computer and server at work and my home network. That's how I get work done for work at home. My extra curricular work is with "hot" versions of the software. FYI: My seat of UG and Catia V5 have a value of something more like $200k a piece. That includes the CAD, FEA, CFD, CAM, and simulation portions of the software. Edited February 6, 2007 by FireHead Quote
dalegoldston Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Ya I can vpn into work also I dont think any of my home pc's could handle it. Its amazing how much some of this stuff can cost. I can only imagine what 200 floating copies of pro cost. Quote

That's why they have come out with the lower end packages like SolidWorks or SolidEdge. Quote

HAHA, I wouldnt mind the challenge, but I cant measure for shit unless its with some calipers and its (the frame) on the list of things I dont have room for in college. Quote

We don't have a CMM machine large enough to do the entire frame at work, so a measuring strategy is something else that on my list of things that I need to conjur. I am thinking about making a grid on a piece of tile board and fixing the frame to it inorder to help measure and give some reference to some of the bends. :: Quote

Shit I hear Catia is almost 30 grand for 1 liscence!! :shoothead: Thats why I have the "student version" $30k for Catia probably only gets you a very basic design package. Go to www.dassaultsystems.com , and you can build your own package and see what it costs. The complete seats of UG and Catia that were bought where I work and have worked were about $200k a piece and that was with a discount for buying multiple seats at once. Quote
