HARRY64CHEVY Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 Ok i did post up before when i thought i had problem fixed but now yesterday when i was putting back together to check compression i cant seem to get the kickstarter to work properly. I will try an explain as good as i can what is happening. I put shaft on, then the gear, put the spring in the hole and slide plastic collar on. Now when i press down on kstarter, the kstarter gear slides out pass the idler gear and then goes back completly missing the idler gear. One question i had was, is the white plastic collar supposed to be tight on the shaft. Because it seems if that would stay in place then the kstarter gear would then stop and grab the idler gear. I hope this makes enough sense for you to figure out and help me out. My email is [email protected] is anyone could respond that would be great! this would be the quickest way for me to get it. thanx again!! Quote

It sounds like the white collar might be worn out. Post up some pics or some video so that we might be able to help better. Edited February 3, 2007 by FireHead Quote

J-Madd Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Is the cover off? The white plastic thing butts up against the inside of the clutch cover. If the cover is off, it will ALWAYS come out too far the the kicker gear will pass the idler gear. Quote
DUB Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 yeh make sure the spring is on right and put the cover back on. That is your prob. Quote
MotulMonsta Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 If I remember right, that white plastic piece is a spacer to provide the correct clearence in order for the gear to engage. It fits in there pretty sloppy. Make shure that spring is on right and that the gear spins outward on the grooved shaft. If you took it apart, you might have put it together backwards. It can happen. Forcefed Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Yup, what they said - the cover has to be on and the coller is loose on the shaft. One thing that IS easy to get messed up is the straight part of the spring that locks into the shaft --- it HAS to be at the 12:00 position, not 6. Quote

I had this problem once i was put the spring back on and every time i moved the kick starter it came off. it was just by chance that i tried it with the side cover on and it stayed put. sometimes its just the little things which you dont think of first Quote
