Hollister_Hitman Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Broncogurl has a cannon zr(xx) don't remember the #s. It uses mini dv tapes for video and also uses a memory card for pictures. We can get the pictures onto the computer using a usb cable but I don;t know how to get the video off? Cannon says that they don;t provide software to transer video onto the computer. Do I just need a firewire cable? How do you guys get your dv onto your computers? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 use windows movie maker... open the program and at the top left it says capture video... go through the options and use that to take it off then edit it... Quote
Hollister_Hitman Posted January 31, 2007 Author Report Posted January 31, 2007 thanks, I will give it a try tomorrow Quote
fox_forma Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 a lot of camcorders cant use USB to transfer video to the computer. You prob need a firewire cable. If you dont have a firewire card on the comp you will prob need to buy one. There like $20 for the card and $20 for the cable, but you can get a firewire cable off ebay for like $5 instead Quote
Handyman Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Or what oyo could do is put the camcorder in VCR mode and push play. Hit the "Take picture button" as if you were going to take a picture and it should start to record onto the memory stick. and then download from the memory stick. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 almost every digital camera now days has a usb hookup. same as your normal cameras... you plug it in and turn it on and the computer will reconize it... hit capture video and your good Quote

A firewire is needed for video. My elura 100 is like that. Here is a link for the ZR user group on camcorderinfo dot com. http://www.camcorderinfo.com/bbs/f9 Find out what model number it is and look around there. It will tell you everything you need to know Quote
Bansh-eman Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 i know that sony and panasonic can both transfer video over those cables...but those are the only two i have owned Quote
fox_forma Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 yup my sony hc series was able to do it that way but my canon couldnt. Seems stupid but I guess there is some reasoning behind it. From what I understand firewire transfers better that USB but I really dont know if that holds true or not Quote
Hollister_Hitman Posted February 1, 2007 Author Report Posted February 1, 2007 (edited) yeah when I hook it up to the computer with the usb my computers don;t even recongnize that it is hooked up. I guess I will go to bestbuy and talk to those guys. I doubt my computer has a firewire card either, is there any way I can search for it? P.S I used my helmet cam today and the quality is really good, when I get this camera hooked up to the computer I willl post the video Fox forma: thanks for that link Edited February 1, 2007 by Hollister_Hitman Quote
Bansh-eman Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 the fire wire card or if its built in you would have the jacks that look like the small camera ones or the big ass square ones like for a external harddrive. if you dont have one of those then you dont have one... Quote

Right below my usb ports There is a male plug in that needs a female plug in and it has 5 prongs on the top and 4 prongs on the bottom along with the screw ins on the outside. It also has this symbol: |O|O| I will look in my manual Edited February 1, 2007 by Hollister_Hitman Quote
