Rebel3190 Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Ive always wondered why two stroke has the big pipe that narrows toa smaller one,I heard something that it's because they don't have valves, but Cheetah motors have power valves so why do they have the big pipes still? Quote
yama_dog_350 Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 The expansion chamber (fat area on pipe) is used to draw fuel into the combustion chamber. The power valve closes at low rpm to provide consistant power so you dont have to down shift. Quote
Rebel3190 Posted January 21, 2007 Author Report Posted January 21, 2007 why does it need to pull fuel in there though? Quote
sheefreak Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Here is a pretty good article. http://forums.everything2stroke.com/articl...bout-pipes.html Quote
csrmel Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 a 2 stroke doesnt NEED expansion chamber to run. it doesnt actually need any sort of an exhaust. you can unbolt the expansion chambers and mufflers from a banshee and it will start and run. but you will be way down on youre power, and with no exhaust it will be loud as hell. and shoot blue/orange flames out the exhaust ports. (ask me how i know LoL) the expansion chamber lets the engine consume more air and fuel than it normally could by its self. i like to think of it as a supercharger. in any case, if you drop the pipes from a 2 stroke you drop its power output usually atleast 50%, on the banshee its probably more like 70% but honestly the precentage depends on the pipe, the motors port timings, etc. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 (edited) there was a post that someone dug up on here a few days ago that showed how it worked... think of it like sound wave... a 2 stroke doesnt burn all the fuel.. so the waves hit the expansion chamber and get reflected back into the cylinder right befor it closes and adds that extra power that was lost from the previouse stroke...ill see if i can dug it back up here it is Edited January 21, 2007 by Bansh-eman Quote
Rebel3190 Posted January 21, 2007 Author Report Posted January 21, 2007 AHHHHH,that pic helped alot,so thats where th powerband hit come in,its makin sence now. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 thats why theres so many differant style pipes.. some take longer to get the fuel to comeback and re-enter the cylinders thus making it a topend pipe... Quote
