jayzx10r Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Hey now... I live in San Diego and our version of "Premium" pump gas is 91 octane. I just pulled a compression test that yielded a 160LB reading. I'd prefer to run pump gas but I don't want to hammer my motor. I know that a lot of you live in America where you have REAL gasoline...not the watered down stuff we are forced to use... :verymad: Any leads to cheaper race fuel stations local to me would be great. The guy I bought the 'shee from said he only ran it on C12 but with a low compression like that...I don't think it needs it. Anyhow, thanks for the help, Jay in SanD. Quote

Going east on 8 get off on Mollison in El Cajon. Turn Right. Turn right into first Gas Station. It use to be 5.00 a gallon but went up to 6.00. Still cheaper than the blue can stuff. Its on the way to Glamis too. Always keep race gas containers sealed tightly and out of the sun. The additives that make fuel high octane evaporate very quickly. Quote
Washburn Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 I would run a 60/40 blend of 110 and 91 at the least if it were mine at 160. That would suck if you had to change the domes out for bigger ones you would notice a power loss and if its running that well why not throw the extra money in for race fuel thats just MO. I know alot of people who run straight race gas in their stock bikes and swear by it. Some people I know put 110 mixed with 927 in their weedeaters. I thinks thats rediclous but, hey whatever. I run straight 93 at 150psi and SHEEs good. As soon as put my timing plate in and bump it +4 it should raise a few psi then I will run a blend. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 hey jay... not sure what part of san d your from or where you ride... but out the 8 in el cajon theres 2 gas stations i get gas at... one is right off muleson... thats not how you spell it but i cant member what it is... anyways if your going 8 east its right after the 67 on the right side... they sell race gas , its like 6 bucks a gallon... or you can go 67 north like one exit and on the left side theres a soco station. they are a little harder to get to and you have to have a mebership to get their gas but its free.. both sell vp but the one on muleson runs out sometime... and you can buy drums at the soco place... either way id run 50/50 in your bike... Forcefed Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 (edited) Couldn`t agree more, & i was thinking about his porting along with the stroke. I just want to go on record that using static psi readings for judging octane requirements is NOT a good idea, but, if you want to try then I agree that for pump gas you are probably a little on the high side. I see in your signature that your cylinders have been ported - dune port right? ...the first thing most porters will do to a stock banshee cylinder is raise the exhaust port a bit. It may only be 1mm or so... Now with that in mind, trying to compare your compression readings with the "industry standard" of 150psi for a banshee with a stock heigth exhaust port - you will see how things can get a little fuzzy. 160 on a ported cylinder could very well be 175 on a stock one. You might drop the comp or run the C-12 like the previous owner did. Edited January 21, 2007 by Forcefed Quote
Crazy05 Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Id like to hear more on porting effecting compression. My bike was ported. Heavy dune port. The guy milled the head to make up for loss of compression. Brought it back to 125. Does that mean my actual compression will be higher when running? If so could you explain. Thanks. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 when you do a compression test you should run the bike and warm it up that way you gte a actually compresion for a hot motor... Quote
scooter Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 cant help you on where to buy gas in sd but that is one very clean looking shee i like how you did it Quote
jayzx10r Posted January 21, 2007 Author Report Posted January 21, 2007 cant help you on where to buy gas in sd but that is one very clean looking shee i like how you did it I bought it this way. I've been looking for this Banshee for 4 months... Just picked it up a few days ago. I'm gonna take it out soon for it's Maiden Voyage in a couple of weeks!! One of the ultra cool doodads it that the stock tail light has been removed and in place of it are 2 kind of large (for LEDs) LEDs...each mounted on each side of the grab rail near the body work. When the headlight is on...they blink bright blue. At idle, they flash red and blue...kinda cool. I hope they qualify as tail lights at Glamis for night riding!! Quote

Thats right, when running a 2-stroke engine will yield MUCH higher compression (dynamic) vs. that of which you get while only running the engine over at a couple hundred rpm`s with your foot (static). One of the major reasons, is the charging effect of the pipe. Quote
