I purchased a 95 banshee yesterday. It was used as a pit quad for somebody who raced, so some bolt on stuff eventually made it onto it from the race quad. Previous owner claims it has a major port/polish and the top end has about 30 hours on a rebuild. I bought it from the racer's nephew and he did not know specifics of the build. It runs strong with no hiccups but it starts way too easy. I can push the kick lever down with my hand almost. Got any ideas what to check? This is my first quad but I'm no wrenching rookie.

do a compression test , thats the only way you can tell true compression ,

some signs of low compression are it is hard to start when its cold .

does it start on first couple kicks or do you have to kick the hell out of it to get it going ?

well do a compression test but i bet its just because your not use to it. all banshee are like this well most of them. your not like a 2 stroke and are very easy to kick start and even puch down with your hand but do a test just to make sure

Yeah do a compression test to make sure. You never know where your compression is and you could end up blowing a motor if you dont know. As far as it kicking over easy thats just how 2 strokes are I can start mine at 150 psi in each cyl with an easy kick. Its when its cold and flooded out when you have to hold open your throttle and kick it like a muel.

Must be nice... I've had them with up over 200psi compression and they get to be a bitch to kick over when they get up there. Especially if you are fucking around with jetting and don't have things dialed in yet. LOL!

I assume a compression test on a two stroke is just like I would do on my car? Hold the throttle open and give it a couple kicks? If it was rebuilt to stock compression what should I be seeing? Thanks for the help.
