I just put a ricky staor 200 watt stator in my 96 shee and I was told to wire in a second voltage regulator. So I did.My problem Is now Is that the lights are friggen dim as hell at idle like a cigarette lighter, and do not brighten up until about 4000 rpm.The lights are stock the flywheel is stock, and I disconnected the second regulator and no change.I never had this problem before.Do I need the matching flywheel to fix this problem?OH and there are no wiring problems or loose grounds.Been there checked that. The lights were fine on my stock stator, and when i put this one in they suck now.HElP Anyone?

i think there is a gap to maintain between the stator and the flywheel ................................

you have a clymers i would assume somebody will probably chime in but i think its on here if you searched and i think its in the clymers.

I had this problem when I added lights to my stock system. I was told to run the bike and disconnect the voltage regulator. If at idle the lights became brighter, then the stock regulator was bad. I replaced it with the Ricky Stator unit and they wer as they should be. Try that, you shouldn't need to run 2 regulators.

Also check the air gap between the stator pick-up and the flywheel. I don't know what it is, but like Jet said, it's in the service manual. Don't forget there's a manual posted in this forum. It's pinned.

Thanks for the advice guys. All those Items have been checked.I have other regulators and swapped them. The gap on the pickup coil is 19 thousanths. So that is good. From what I understood the pickup coil is just for spark.I did not know it was used for lighting.just thought I might have to run the ricky flywheel also.Dont the ricky flywheels have astronger magnet in them to match the 200 watt stator? Is that why the lights are dim?Guess I will just dump my stock stator back in.I do a lot of nite rides. Thanks

you dont need a differant flywheel... the stock is fine.. the only differance with the rs flywheel is the magnets are layed in the metal differantly.. they arnt any stonger... the stator is the power to everything on your bike... coils lights everything...

the 200 watt stator kit he sells most recently doesn't require two voltage regulators? That is odd. Do all the plug ends coming out of the new stator look like the stock one does?

yes it has a factory plug that plugs right into the harness.but there is one extra white wire that you are supposed to tie into the regulator circuit and add a second regulator.I since have just gone back to one regulator and no change.at idle the lights are soo dim.when riding at nite if i have the rpms low on the bike i cant see a thing. when coasting down trails i have to keep revving the bike to see the trail.we all know the stock lights are not the best, but now they are 50 percent worse than stock.the only time they light correctly is when you are in the powerband,by that time you are over riding your view.

Where did you get that stator? If it is a rs stator, thats one of Ricky's really old designs from about 1999. He now has a 200w stator that doesn't have any extra wiring and it keeps your lights really bright with his flywheel at idle.

I kept this one from a parts bike.It must be the old style stator.Any more input on those types,or should I just dump it and go back to stock?
