Tough call...I think it's a good mod if you've already got the side cover off to replace the clutch, get the shift star mod, etc. Figure 10 to 20 for the gasket, another 7 or 8 for coolant, and 10 to 12 for gear oil...

If you're not having problems overheating now, which...you shouldn't, I'd wait till you have to crack the side cover open.

They are nice to have and good insurance, the stock plastic can deteriorate, crack, break...etc. But, you have an 06 by your sig, prolly not worth it just yet IMO.

yes it is! the billet ones are metal and the stock ones are plastic. If you have the money to buy one then its a good idea to get one. I still have the stock one in my because from the shortage of funds but on the other hand i have a temp gauge that i keep my eye on while riding. the billet ones also move more water or coolent or whatever your running.

Alot of guys run engine ice as well. I run wetter water or water wetter whatever the hell its called. I run that because it can be mixed with coolent for the winter.

I don't have overheating problems, i was just about to buy a crank case saver on ebay and they have the impeller and i could save on shipping. I see it as an insurance as well, 54$ is it a good price??

The billet impeller is a much better piece than the plastic stock one. The stock one has fins that stop short of the center of the impeller and the aftermarket one goes all the way to the center and it also wont break off fins like the stocker will..............

The billet impeller is the first thing that I did to both my banshees. Seckend thing was a cluch kit from Jeff at F.A.S.T racing. Since your down their get a shift star mod aswell. Made a huge differents on mine.

Also dont forget a gasket if you get the impeller. A magnet oil plug is good idea also.

Its all about pice of mind for my.

Is there a write up anywhere on how to install one of these?

I want to get one soon as a preventative maintenance measure.

Yeah, they have a pretty good write up in that one book, ummmm what was it called, oh yeah, Clymer's.............. :yelrotflmao:

J/K man, but you need to invest in one, it is the banshee bible, and after a while you wont need it anymore, but its a good start............

just because the impeller blades are plastic doesnt mean its any less reliable than metal. alot of new cars come with plastic impellers and last for 100,000+ miles.

with that said, i have heard of an abnormally high failure rate of the banshee impeller compared to a car impeller. maybe its just a poor design? i replaced the plastic impeller on my new banshee with an aluminum model because i was worried about it. but after removing the stock unit and trying to break the blades, i realise that it was a waste of money. i couldnt break the stock blades with my hands. i couldnt get the shaft to dislodge from the blades either.

maybe after some years the plastic gets brittle or something. i dont know really. but the stock impeller looks to be made out of nylon and nylon is a pretty strong matereal and it is resistant to water, oil and coolant.. not to mention that there is basically no stress on the blades. all they do is churn in water.

also i used my infrared tempature gun to measure my cooling tempature before and after the mod. i noticed no difference whatsoever.

the plastic gets weak and flexes once its heated up.. the flow isnt why you should replace it... hi flow or not the billet impeller is more reliable then the plastic casue it dosent flew when it gets hot.... iv heard of ppl getting the bike so hot it actually melts the stocker... billet you wouldnt have this problem.

i was at A&S racing today and Dan himself told me that i shouldnt do the billet impeller becaust the shaft wears out where the o rings contact it and when the shaft grooves bad enough the coolarnt goes in to the trans oil.....dont have proof on this its just what i was told by one of the most respectable builders in the buisness

The shaft on the stocker and the billet one should be the same. If the o-rings or oil seal wear out you will get coolant in the trans oil, but I would rather have this than having the head of the stocker fail. It's easier and less $$ to replace an oil seal than to replace a top end. **No offense BansheeDan, this is just another perspective on the topic**
