sgt seth Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 So I am getting ready to go home, and I have a few coins to play with. I have been looking through PC's on ebay, the Whitebox computers that are custom made. Any suggestions on what to look for? I have a CyberPower Laptop right now, I like it but I want something a little quicker. I dont play a whole lotta games on PC but I do use it for video's and such. I dont need an Alienware or anything, nothing that spectacular. I do need something that will be able to be networked so that I can transfer shit from my laptop to my desktop for school and such. I also do alot of video crap on it. Making video's of slideshows and video clips, but the software is easy to find. I want something that wont be so outdated that it will be useless in 3 months, something that I can use for a lil while. Also when is Vista coming out or is it already? I haven't really been paying attnetion to that stuff, kind of outta the computer world lately. Any suggestions would be great. Just looking for the CPU, can get a monitor and crap like that pretty cheap. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you -seth Quote

DraveN Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 ibuypower.com have premades already built and allow you to modify/upgrade certain things that boost the performance and the price obviously If you know someone tho you could always get them to build you one by buying parts from newegg.com or tigerdirect.com thats pretty cheap as well but ibuypower builds it for you all you need is to select which parts you want ^^ Quote

Shee-Male Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 I'm no Guru, but I recently purchased a new Computer, a Pentium Core 2 Dual 6400 w/ 2 gig 800hrz ram, thing freakin FLYS! Also got a raidmax Smileodon case, this thing is awsome, lots of fans (5) inc. a 120mm, and the side panels clip open with handle latches on the top either side, also has a support for the vid cards and the drive bay also swivels out for access, not to mention all the blue led's and clear panel if your into bling...for me it was function over fassion. This new pentium set up works real nice and stays cool, even when I'm workin it over real hard with all the graphics software I run, apperantly it also overclocks well... but like I said I ain't no Guru and thats out of my leauge  Google the case....it's real nice! Animalman294 Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 Yeah, you need to search and find out which computer components you are interested in. The parts for my first computer I got from a computer show and saved like $1000 from retail. The second computer I built was from parts from the first and places like TigerDirect, Directron, and Mwave are pretty comparable on their prices............ About the obsolete thing in three months, welcome to the build it yourself computer world. Once a company releases a new product, they have already been working on the newer and faster model for the last year and a half. It is extremely competitive, so the faster they can get the product out the better................ :: Quote
BenBB Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 Good posts, and about the obsolescence thing...kinda goes with the territory. Word on the street is that DirectX10 video cards will be the shit, but aren't out yet. Anyway like anything ya get what ya pay for, go for the best you can afford and upgrade when you can. I'd look at a core2duo E6400, 2Gb RAM, 1066Mhz FSB, and an nVidia 7000 series video card at the minimum. Newegg.com is an excellent source of info, whether or not you build it yourself, the user ratings and buyer's guide helped me out alot. Quote
sgt seth Posted January 4, 2007 Author Report Posted January 4, 2007 I've been looking into this more. The input here is great, and I know the obsolete thing is just gonna have to happen. But I just want the best out there. I'm gonna be getting the best I can, found out I have a 'relative' I guess you'd call it that is awesome with computers, just not the most reliable person. Gotta see if I can make him build me one, and if not who knows.. Time always tells. Quote
