dajogejr Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 I'm thinking it might be time for not only that port job you're talkin bout, but maybe some more pipe for top end power. If you're gonna dune more than drag race, get CPIs, drag more than Dune, Shearer pipes. It's been my belief through research and talking to quite a few folks in the know, that CPIs will make power over a broader RPM range and come on sooner, but...Shearer will make More overall power, but in a higher RPM and a shorter RPM spread. The fit and functionality of the Shearer over the CPI is hands down better...but, it's the torque/hp curve suited for your riding conditions that will tell the tale in the end. Good thing is, those T5 pipes are still worth good money used, helping to offset the cost of new pipes. What about a good ignition and timing advance...that helps the low to mid end power for duning as well. Quote

I'd definitely consider the 4mm crank with your dune port. 4mm dune ported motors will beat about 95% of the bikes out there in the dunes, assuming you have the right gearing/paddles/swingarm. Quote
dajogejr Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 I would agree...IF he has the coin. Even though a 4 mil crank is drop in, the cylinders will have to be ported properly (timings changed, etc.) I think we both agree a spacer plate is NOT the way to go...as well as the head being machined to accept the taller crown height. Including the price of the crank, rewelded (Good idea to reweld even a brand new hot rod crank) and machine work on the head, if you tear it all down and assemble it yourself could probably add another 600 or so bills onto the tab. I also prefer a maxload or TZ bearing on the PTO side of the crank, as well...another 45 or 50 beans. SoCal... You are always going to fight this battle. I can do this...or, for just this much more, I can do this...Too. Fighting it right now myself... Quote
SoCalinIt Posted December 19, 2006 Author Report Posted December 19, 2006 Thanks for the input guys! I already have the timing plate, so advancing the timing is going up to +4, I have a set of Shearers on my sleeper, and damn they are nice, so maybe I'll get another set of those. The Air Strikers should keep up the fuel in the newly opened motor, and a Cool Head, +4 swinger and steal line, and V3 Quote

dajogejr Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 I thought I was done with my cub after the crank and jugs, pistons and head came to my door. next thing I knew... Carbs, pipes...all new igntion, including the flywheel (it was bad) Marvin Shaws Now, I'm going alky, lockup, override, even LONGER swinger, cut frame, etc... It's a sickness....I tell ya.... Welcome to the support group. Quote

Welcome to the support group. yeh, ive been there too... although here is my way of doing things.. i thought, you know, itd be sweet to have a long rod stroker shee... so i send jeff my jugs... and told him to give me a 4mil longrod dune/playbike port... and then bought the other parts... although, i still havent bought my crank, even though i got a hell of a deal waiting (450) im just putting it off till i get my parts from jeff... Hello, my name is Nicholas Toney, and im a "dump all my money into my banshee"-aholic. Quote
sheefreak Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 I would not buy the kit from E-bay. For one, Jeff will sell you one for cheaper than it would cost you to send that crank to him to have him weld it and put TZ bearing on drive side. For two, I would not run a spacer plate especially if you are going to port for a 4-mill anyway, you already have a coolhead, just have him cut you domes for it. I bet for buying it all from Jeff, and the money you will save from the extra work you NEED done on the crank, it will cost about the same price and you will be much happier! Quote
BigRed350x Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 You will love the 4mil for dune riding and the CPI's are the best pipe for general dune riding IMO. I ran CPI's on my blue banshee and I will run them on my red one, and I will have CPI's on my white banshee more than likely when go to build it up. The white banshee will probably also end up with the 4mil. But keep in mind the added cost of everything else that goes with the 4mil setup... carbs, swingarm, porting, head/domes, top end kit... yadda yadda. Quote

Welcome to the support group. That's how it went with my cub... got the crank, reeds, head, pistons, cubs, gaskets... then new pipes, then carbs, then swingarm, then another set of bigger cubs, then new domes, then different carbs, then modded my frame, then new clutch setup, new transmission.... it got really ridiculous. I have a frame on the way that I am going to build a custom rear end for, to take everything off of the red bike and put on a new frame. Plus I can get the new frame PC'd before I start putting stuff in it. LOL! - Jared Quote
625banshee Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Get Cpi's instead of shearers Quote
bansheeseat$$ Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Hey guys! Question for you Quote
Hilarious Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Let me comment on Jeff's 4mill dune port, since I have one. Lol It's an awesome motor. Runs very strong. I'd get all the stuff from Jeff. He knows what he's doing and is a hoot to talk to over the phone. Now Jeff, if you are reading this, where's my comission? Lol Quote
dajogejr Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Now Jeff, if you are reading this, where's my comission? Lol Get in Line...buddy. Or...Jeff...just make the check out to "The Original Dave Germain" and send it to MY address....Ha ha ha.... :yelrotflmao: Quote
