Fastdadtsmith Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 My sons quad, dune port, 2 into 1 carb, CPI's, works shocks, +4 swing arm. He let his older brother take it to "The Hill" when he came back he said he kept missing 2nd gear. I rode it and 2nd gear feels like it is skipping. No raddle, just a skip like some teeth are gone. My son is no racer, but I would really like to pony up for the 2-5 duneable override. Is this something a backyard mechanic (with new compression gauge LOL) can rebuild? Or, what kind of money should it cost to have new trans installed by a reputable builder. I have no problem shipping across the great plain!! Quote
Bansh-eman Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 are you asking if you wouldbe able to cut the over ride your self? Quote
Fastdadtsmith Posted November 30, 2006 Author Report Posted November 30, 2006 No, that would be beyond me. I have rebuilt top ends plenty (maybe 8-10 times, and have learned a lot from reading this forums responses. I have never split a case before, and if it were $200 +/-, I would pay somebody to do it. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 i know jeff at fast charges like 250 to teardown and rbuild your motor with a leakdown test... its not hard to doyour self though... get your self a clymers and go to town... id actually say try to do it your self the first time and get an understanding of how the motor is assembled that why when you see post on here you know what is being talked about... just make sure you do a leakdown test and a compression test after you build it to make sure there are no leaks so you dont blow your brand new motor... BigRed350x Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 There'a a link to a thread I made about splitting the cases in the guys sig above me. That will give you an IDEA of what's involved. Its a pretty simple task. I helped a buddy split his cases for the first time this past weekend. We went from an engine in the frame to split cases and had everything tore apart in an hour and 45min. If you have a good clean work environment and a friend to help out, its super easy man. Do it yourself. An override trans is not hard to install if you have one handy and have the cases split. Quote
