bead or sandblasting after bore/hone work?

can i have the outsides of my cyls. bead or sandblasted after the bore work is done?

 

ive seen a bunch of the bead blasted cyls, and have just decided to do it if i can i just got the cyls.

back from the machine shop.....

 

also can port work be done after bore work as well??

I would put tape over the top and bottom of the cylinder to keep stuff from getting in the bore or to keep from accidantly blasting the cylinder bores.

just tape both side or plug them... the beads or sand is going it work its way in the cylinders a little either way so your going to need to clean them either way you go but you dont have to worry about the beads messing up your new hone...

I would think you would need to port then bore so it would take out any burrs. Not sure but would make sence. Course I have been wrong many times.

Most builders prefer to port then bore, they're not perfect...and they can knick a cylinder just as easy as anyone....a bore cleans that up no problem.

Just had a blaster get sand in some fresh cylinders.... What a dick..

youll be ok,as long as you keep the bore taped good(i imagine the media will eventually wear through or pull the tape off,and try to use a fine glass bead media,not sand)i mysel prefer to beadlast the cylinders before i do anything...As far as porting goes,ive always ported after bore and hone(on iron liners)you figure you spent all the time porting it and making it perfect after you bore the cylinder its gonna change it all(very slightly).After you beadblast those cylinders clean those things out real good also.
