I saw on Discovery Channel that the baracuda attack in the "Faces of Death" series was a hoax?

I saw a baracuda in Mexico this summer snorkling and it scared the shit out of me.

Because I had that image etched in my brain from that flick.

Does anybody know if it really was a fake stage act for the Faces of Death

Didnt see it on Faces of Death so I dont know exactly what happened, but a close friend of mine almost lost his whole foot while in Cancun last year on spring break. He was treading water in a pretty shallow area and one bit him and took off half his foot from the side. Somehow they were able to save his foot but it was some of the nastiest pics I have ever saw when he sent them to me.

i have lived in the florida keys for 4 years , we still have the house but its rented out and i have never heard of a baracuda attack. I have swam with both pacific baracuda ( the schooling ones ) with over 100 cuda in a school . I have swam with extremly large atlantic ones ( 5 ft ) I have never thought i was going to get attacked but they do look mean and ferocious. Make sure you dont dive with jewlery on . i normally dive with just a long spear and if i see a cuda you poke it and hes gone for good ( they are really a big puss )

I have only heard of 1 attack in my time , and that was a house boat in the keys was driving and the lady had her feet in the water and she had a gold ankle braclet on. None the less it was in the newspaper and im sure theyre are way more unreported cuda attacks.

chase is correct they are attracted by shiny things because they think that it is a smaller fish (food for them). they aren't viscious killing machines, unless you are a little fish. my oldest son did a report on barracudas.

Yeah, I've been diving for twelve years and have never had any problems with them. I have seen a lot of them and with their teeth, they look really nasty. But unless you are a small shiny fish you really don't have anything to worry about.............
