dajogejr Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 I'd say that depends on pipe and carb selection too...odaen.... There's still no bottom on mine, and I'm running curve 3 on my dyna (most advanced) and +8 on my plate....it's about 30 degrees of total advance at it's highest setting...(3500 to about 5500 RPM) and I run 185PSI.... When my bike falls of the pipe...it sucks.... Quote

Also, your running a cub, which from the factory has a 197 duration triple port exhaust, hardly a good formula for low-end torque. I'm guessing the dune port is somewhere around a 192/128 flavor that should lend itself to quite a bit more bottom end with the SST's than your cub setup. Dunno  Quote

I'm not arguing with you at all, merely stating my own actual expereience.... With my cub, I had T5's and stock carbs to begin with....it was still a lightswitch, with stock ignition and a full flywheel... So....once I tried that, I decided F It....go the whole way...(are we ever truly all the way?? lol)... Quote
raptorooster Posted October 23, 2006 Author Report Posted October 23, 2006 Im running 16cc domes with leaded 110fuel, and im runnin my timing plate at +5 degrees, the stroke is still stock. Quote
Animalman294 Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Yeah, they pretty much have a lightswitch effect on them, from what I am gathering............ Quote
raptorooster Posted October 24, 2006 Author Report Posted October 24, 2006 Geez, there are so many mixed feelings and opinions about this topic. I guess everybody has their own riding style. I dont mind if the powerband is a lightswitch as long as its predictable, which right now its not even close, and i also live with the understanding that its 2 stroke, and if i want lowend power i should buy a lawnmower, i just dont want to loose anymore bottom end. all and all i just need more power, Soon as i get a call back from FAST ill make my descision. I have been riding this thing since 2001 and its time for a big change!! Quote
dajogejr Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Unpredictable can be a tricky term to use. If the bike hooks up....look out. If it just sits and spins....no fun. I'm so happy I bought my cub, it's not even funny. I went through a ton of problems right off the bat...but, now that they've been sorted....it's an absolute blast to ride. Yeah, you're in for a HUGE change ...for sure. Quote
raptorooster Posted October 24, 2006 Author Report Posted October 24, 2006 Can you describe a "ton of problems" ?? what am i in for? is this setup gonna be reliable? I was kinda hoping to install the kit, install my clutch and swingarm, grab my jet box and go have some fun!! should i be expecting something else?? Quote
dajogejr Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 I posted the problems I had in another thread...I'll try and find that for you. Quote
BigRed350x Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 I had problems when I built my first cub as well. Granted, they weren't really the cubs fault, just everything happened at the same time since it was a total over-haul and lots of things changed. My first cub was a stock stroke casting and I was running it with a 4mil and I was unhappy with the power output. i had a shiz-ton of eletrical problems and ended up just buying a new OEM harness and EVERYTHING eletrical. Then I couldn't get the stupid thing tuned right, mostly because my port timings were so jacked. I got sick of it and got a 4mil casting. Fixed everything pretty quick once I had the right setup. Ran great for almost a year then the electrical problems came back. I think its just that I tend to ride just a LITTLE bit more than most people and I find the weak spots on the banshee a lot quicker. When you put over 30hrs ride time on a shee in a single weekend, things are bound to come up. I can usually get about 75-100hrs on a top end. You can imagine how much tinkering I do with these things and how often i end up replacing parts. I'm also getting really good at fixing problems and tuning. Ha ha! Quote
dajogejr Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 My problems were different. I can't find the thread...so, I'm going to TRY and be short winded. Out of the box, the top and bottom surface on my cub were not flat. The casting of the cylinders itself were fine, it was the finishing of the cylinders done by millenium that was the problem. The nikasil was (and still is) fine. The sandblasting they use to "finish" the outside of the castings was my problem. Big air leak on the bottom, and the top of the cylinders wouldn't seal coolant... Once I had a friend block (flatten the top and bottom) it's been great. However, I do need to use a thicker base gasket to a. Get the correct squish clearance, and b. get the proper port timings... So...once I had that sorted, it's been a reliable rocket ever since....it was just a real pain.... After I got my cub, I got RDZ/Shearer inframes, 35PWKs...and a Completely new igntion system, coil, wires, stator and CDI. I also trimmed down my whole harness (no lights) as well. Quote
raptorooster Posted October 25, 2006 Author Report Posted October 25, 2006 Well guys, After talking to Jeff at FAST i have decided to go with the 421 cub, shearer, and 38mm 2 into 1, he is gonna work a bit on the port timing and were bonna make this thing go!! Thanks for all the input on this topic, Ryan Quote
