powerbanshee Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 and if a welded one is better how much does this usually cost? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 your talking about 2 differant things... any crank you get besides a twisted crank pretty much should be RE-welded... now if you asking which is better a hotrod or a welded stocker? then id say hotrod. it all depends on wha your looking for and what motor mods you plan on having. sheefreak Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 If you check w/some different builders, you can buy a Hot-rods crank, welded, and w/a TZ bearing installed. Depends on what your needs are as stated. You will want to weld about any crank. Most places will weld them for $75 plus the ride. Quote
powerbanshee Posted September 14, 2006 Author Report Posted September 14, 2006 well i have two banshees, one is a 87 with a hot rod crank in it, right now it has fmf`s, stock head milled .020, but i already have a cool head with 20cc domes, and i`m planning on putting in v-force 3`s and probably a port and polish in the winter, and the other is a 97 with a stock crank, fmf`s boysen reeds ported, k-n pods, i plan on putting a cool head on with 20cc domes in the winter also, i just wanted to know weather i should have the bottom end done on the 97 so it will be dependable. thanks for the input! so maybe ishould have them both welded? sheefreak Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 If you are going to bump compression(which you have and are) you will definately want to weld them..... especially if you are looking to do some porting in the future. They will check to make sure they are true as well. Quote
CadillacBanshee Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 If it has to be one or the other, go with the welded crank. Quote
Animalman294 Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Any banshee crank if not already welded should be welded if you add any decent amount of power. Because any movement with that crank from being true and you are askin' for trouble......... Twisted cranks are pricey but strong as hell, and a weisco, or hotrod (one make the other) are really good aftermarkets, but if you can't afford any of those at least have your stocker trued and double welded. I say that because some of the older cranks were poppen' the welds, and builders such as Jeff at FAST rewelds them for security............... Quote
dajogejr Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 I say that because some of the older cranks were poppen' the welds, and builders such as Jeff at FAST rewelds them for security............... Exactly what I was going to say... The hot rod crank is "welded" from the factory. badassbanshee479 on here had the crank...and it split on him. Either a factory crank or aftermarket crank should be rewelded for reliability... Twister cranks are nice, but overpriced IMO.... Quote
hotrodbanshee Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 I just had my crank welded and trued by mrcrankshaft. His name is Vince and owens vince cycles in KY and he specializes in rebuilding crankshafts. He welded and trued my crank for $65.00 and that included return shipping. Go to his web site mrcrankshaft.com and call him, he's really a great guy. Quote
