christ6 Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 i finally made it out to my local mx track and i gotta say i had an amasing time and i plan to sink as much coin into this biike as i can over the winter to make it more mx suitable, even though i know most will sayi should just get a different bike i love my banshee too much and all my buddies own them to so its just awsome when we all rip around town on out bikes that being said i also dragged my other buddy that has a pretty much stock banshee and beat him pretty well and smoked a 400ex in a drag, i have no idea what he was running. now to the problems... i am running fmf fattys with powercore 2's. boyesen power reids, dynojet stage 2 kit and a k&n filter with the snorkel removed. problem 1... my airbox was caked in dirt, my filter was caked in dirt, my carb intakes were caked in dirt and needless to say my carbs had alot of dirt in them. i cleaned the carbs up and got her running again. seems to idle a little rpugher but not terrible since i have cleaned her up. if i run the snorkle it bogs down badly what can i do to keep enough airflow without doing this to my bike again? im running at approx 600ft, what should my carb configuration be with these mods? (only thing i know for sure is that im running 280 mains, the carbs were setup at the local shop and i never asked them what was put in) problem 2... what can i do to gain a little more in the low end for mx racing? my number 1 concern is suspension but before i have enough money for that i may have some money for a 2-1 carb and a coolhead would this be a good inverstment? and if so what size domes? problem 3... AHHH my thumb was killing me after just a few laps, my forearms a little but not nearly as much as my thumb any suggestions? thanks guys Quote
okbeast Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 Can't answer all the questions but for the low-end try going down 1 tooth in the front to lower the powerband some (unless you need to go 70mph on your track). And for the thumb issue, get a twist throttle if ur going to MX. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 As far as the airbox goes, not sure what you could do to help that, especially since you're running the lid...you may have to clean the filter/carbs each time you run the track...maybe you could try sticking the snorkel back on, and cut 1.5 inches off the back of the airbox lid to keep the dirt from flying straight in there through the front  A 2 into 1 carb would be a great choice for better throttle response, and the cool head would be excellent to bump up the compression which would help out on the low end. I highly recommend you choose a NOSS head when you get one, dlnoss is an excellent seller, great product, great service. He can help you choose a dome size that would be best for your application. For the arm fatigue, I've heard of people cutting a coil off of each spring in the carbs which will relieve some tension, but if you plan to get a 2 into 1 carb setup, that alone will help out by only having to lift one carb slide, opposed to two. Also could try doing some workouts that will strengthen the muscles in your hand. Those little thingamajigs that you squeeze with your hand would be a good start. LOL, sorry I can't remember what they're called 280's sound about right for your elevation and mods, if it runs strong, I wouldn't mess with it  Quote
black sunshine Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 any ideas anyone? Try an Outerwears filter box cover or a K&N Powerlid. This will help keep the crap out and let it breathe better than the snorkel Quote
