Timing Plate

im putting a timing plate on in the morning and i have a question, to advance it by 4 degrees do i line up the number 4 line on the timing plate to the line on the block or do i line up the the line on the pickup coil to number 4 on the plate? thanks for any input

Line the +4 mark on the stator plate with the split where the upper and lower case join
