TWILES Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 I'm thinking about building another Banshee and I've seen a lot of people that used RZ350 motors. I don't know anything about them other than I saw where they have powervalves. If I can find a ProTrax frame used for a decent price I'll probably go that route so I wouldn't really have to have a whole Banshee to start since the gas tank, seat, and plastic are the only other Yamaha parts I would need. Anyone had any expirience with these motors that could give me an idea of what I would be getting into? AND will the cylinders work with a Banshee bottom-end? Thanks Quote
broke Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 The swap itself is brainless. The wiring is tricky. Mounting the components is semi brainless. Much more usable power than the Banshee. The jugs bolt right to Banshee cases if you want to go that route. quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by jdwxv3 I'd get a 4 stroke. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I agree. If you build that bike right you may rethink that. I haver an Outlaw frame with a 4mil RZ motor in it and can trail ride that thing all day and never get caught by anything in the open area. Quote

I kept hearing that 2007 was the last year for 2 strokes to race AMA or ATVA races so I sold mine out of fear I'd be buried with it. I haven't heard anything like that since I sold mine. I probably won't get started till next year. Going back on the trail riding thing. A powervalve motor is easier to ride in trails than one without. Quote
Yaxy Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 As broke mentioned the swap is not that bad but the wiring can be a bit tricky. However you have come to the right place to learn about this swap. There are several on this site, including myself that have successfully conquered this challenge. Feel free to do a serch under my screen name. I posted several photos a couple of months ago on the completion of my RZ project and shoewed some examples on how I mounted some of the hardware. Unfortunately, I have not seen the full potential of the RZ, but I just received my new High comp head and my Rockets should be here within the next 2 weeks, then we will see what this thing has got. strokersquid Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 what high compresion head ? did you skim it .030" ( or up to .070 ) or is there an after market head i dont know about ? Quote
Yaxy Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 I had the stock RZ head cut about .030 - .035 and compression was not where it shoudl have been. A couple months ago on the HQ the question came up if there was ever a High comp head for the RZ. Some members recalled there used to be but noone seemed to know if they were still available. S0 I called Pro Design and they have them in stock. Tom, the ower has been making them for years and has alot of expereince on the RZ. Give him a call. I have some pics to post that I should get to this morning. Chris Quote
