decon Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 anyone know how to get stuff off of a vhs tape onto a computer? I have VHF slot (tv plug) and also a s/video slot with all these cords that came with my computer to hook up to my VCR but I dont know what exactly to do to get it on to my comp. Right now I have the s/video think hooked up to the output on my vcr and plugged into my computer but what program do I need. Quote
dawarriorman Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 You need a video capture card. The s-video slot on your computer is (pretty much assuredly) a video output. It sits right next to the cord thats hooked up to your monitor right? Once you buy a video capture card, it should come with the software you need. Quote
Animalman294 Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Warriorman is right, you have to capture the video. The VHS is in analog format and you need to put it into digital format for your computer to handle it. Quote
decon Posted July 10, 2006 Author Report Posted July 10, 2006 (edited) no its actually on a seperate video card...I believe that is a video capture card I will take a picture of it, it came with my computer. dawarriorman Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Could be then. Go to the device manager (right click on my computer, click on properties, hardware tab) and see if you can find it there. If you bought this computer new from Dell, HP or someone like that, they more than likely gave you the software you need. If not, then use google and search for some software (free video capture software). Try the company that made it too. Quote

I tried "giga pocket" in google and came up with a ton of stuff. Saw a couple forums there too. That should be able to help you figure it out. Quote
knight_ripper Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 Ya you got the hookup. I am using Pinnacle software. If you buy the Pinnacle vid kit, it comes with a hub that you can hookup all kinds of gadgets too. then it has a usb coming out of it that goes to your PC. I have been converting all my tapes to DVD using it. Also i tape TV programs ect. Playboy is where it all started. LMAO. Quote
