hey i just put my 4 mil stroker together and im just breaking it in. but when i get on the gas it smokes out of one side way more than the other side. i checked the plugs and one side looks rich which is the side that smokes a lot and the other side looked almost perfect. its taking a lot of performance away because it almost feels like one cylinder cuts out when ur reving it up. Is this something with the carbs or is my problem bigger than that?

which side is it smoking more out of?? If the right side smokes more it can be crank seal gone bad.......But, I'd say if you just had your motor done, most likly it's jetting, pilot jet or main jet could be plugged on the side that's not smoking as much or one of your slides is sticking/up or down.....Another GOOD possibility is your flywheel could be just minorly dinged causing the temperiment that it's having while on the throttle/cutting out.....I had a bike that would be fine at idle, then once on the throttle it'd cut out bad on top end, so I changed the flywheel and it was cleared up......(the flywheel can cause this even if it's NOT damaged in any way, it may have just lost some magnetism over time and is no longer effective like it should be).....hope one of these will clear you prob.....let us know

my right side(sitting on the bike) smokes more. Im pretty sure it wouldnt be the crank seal its a brand new stroker crank, at least i hope thats not the problem. i cleaned my carbs top to bottom before i put them in with brand new jets. But i did just notice somethin that never went away. right before i started it for the first time i put gas in and it all came out the carb drain so i thought the floats were stuck so i tapped on the carbs and they stop leakin gas. but they still leak a little bit ive noticed. what would that be and could that be why its doin this. it looks like its leakin out of both carb drains though

very possible that if your carbs floats are stuck then yes, that could be causing a missing out on top end because your motor's burning the sufficient amount of fuel throughout combustion, and then the added fuel that's running out of your overflows on top of this is emptying them out and causing this.....one way to fix it is take your bowls off and work your floats up and down while spraying carb cleaner on them as well throughly cleaning them out (also if it's somewhat gummy, this will cause them to stick open).....also another little trick is taking one float completely out of each carb, (because you actually only need one in each, not 2), allowing more fuel displacement inside your bowl.....

Ok well thanks for the help ill rip the carbs out of it tomorow and see whats going on. also whats the float height supposed to be on the stock carbs?

I just learned something new now. i checked my air screws to make sure they were 2 turns out and took it for a ride and then when i got back i let it idle for a about 3 minutes and then its like it just ran out of gas. Any thoughts on that?

Sounds to me like you have it too lean on the pilot circuit. Your air screws won't necessarily be at 2 turns, that is just a rule of thumb that gets tossed around. I have my air screws set at .5 turn out with stock (25) pilots. You need to jet your pilot/air screw as well as the mid (needle) and upper (main). Typically you'll do this by making small adjustments and seeing what gives you the best throttle response right off idle.

As far as the smoke out the right side goes, is it just as the bike is warming up or after it is warmed up? My bike has always smoked slightly more out of the right pipe the first minute or two while warming up, but once it is starting to warm up (not even at operating temp yet) it all but stops smoking out of either pipe.

You could also go to a 27.5 pilot jet.

those jets are very very small like 9603banshee said...make sure you don't have a bunch of crap in them. hold them up to the light and if you cant see a perfect hole then they are clogged. Use your air and spay them out just to make sure any ways. Did you check your needle valves and seats? If they look weathered of if the seats have a bad ring around them get new ones. Make sure your gas line at the T valves is strait...not favoring one carb.

Im also thinking that stock float height is 22mm...but don't take my word for it.

Good Luck

mine did that before also and turned out that my crank seals and base gaskets were shot. still ran hard but was a huge lose of power. After fixing that it was day and night and smoked about the same out each pipe.
