8buck Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 (edited) A local race track here is putting in a 1/4 mile drag strip. Don't most quads race an 1/8 mile strip? I realize you could gear it for a 1/4 mile but I don't think the amateurs around here would want to run that fast very offten. Also, I'm not to savy on how drag strips work but would it be that big of a deal to set one up for 1/8 and 1/4 mile races? Edited June 10, 2006 by 8buck Quote
NYUK Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 you can run either. geared as high as possible, you are still winding out 6 th at the 8 th.the 8 th is more suited for quads.most asphalt strips will allow you to run on bike or muffled street car, or test and tune nights. Quote
Toybreaker Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 1/8 mile is by far (IMO) better for a banshee of even a 4 stroke then 1/4 mile. My Shee when it just had bolt ons was tapped out in 6th about 75 feet before the 660 mark. My best friend YFZ450 was quicker but my shee had a higher top speed. (means my shee made more power!) He hasn't been back since he did the port high comp piston and more aggresive cams. I haven't been able to race the last 2 seasons due to My ship being out to sea every time they do Drag racing at Barona raceway or i am out at glamis(gotta have priorities! :baseball_w00t: ) Quote

I haven't seen a 1/4 mile strip yet that didn't time you at the 1/8 too. Most people when they run here with quads will get to the 1/8 and then let off. They still get timed for the whole 1/4, but whats the point when you aren't accelerating any more? Quote
