Guest dnhyoung1987 Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 (edited) I'm an electrician, and have installed only 1 light on a winch system and that was quite a few years ago, but I would think that you are looking at probably close to atleast $1000.00 if not a few more dollars. By the time someone rents some scaffolding, and does the necessary bracing in the attic, I could see it eating up a day for 2 guys, plus any wiring that might need to be installed to operate the winch system. Where are you located, and maybe I can help a fellow HQ'er out... Edited June 4, 2006 by dnhyoung1987 Quote

If you do not have power running to the location you want the light installed, it will cost alot more depending on where the electrician will have to branch off of a existing circut . Most electricians charge by the difficulty of the job and working conditions, so im some cases a quote is always the best option. I could see a install of this size cosing you between 300-1000 . Chances are it will need to be dedicated so he will have to run all the way to the panel. That all just depends on the amp draw of the winch, anyone know what they pull for amps??? If the elec has to run all the way to the panel and a larger guage wire/breaker is needed then it will obviously be considerably more.. RIPPEN Quote
endofitall9 Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 3rd generation electrician right here work with my dad.here in west virginia, we'd get around $1200 out of something like that. Quote

RIPPEN If you have to run to the panel , figure 10 dollars per foot to the panel that is including wire and conduit or materials .... Have to always see your electrical draw and lay out before wiring anything in to a existing circut. Quote
Toomey Banshee Posted June 5, 2006 Author Report Posted June 5, 2006 Hey, thanks for the replies fellas. The guy thats installing it I went to HS with. I've helped him out with a few things over the years and I used to work with him in the heating and air conditioning business. He has done work for me in the past at this house and my old house as well. He said its gonna be about a grand to install, I just felt that that price was pretty steep for someone you consider a friend. Shit, I do alot of shit for friggin free for my buds AND their families. Ah, it is what it is. Thanks again. Quote
NYUK Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 once he pulled into your neighborhood ,he figures you got it like that. what`s a grand to put a chandelier in a mansion with an olympic sized pool and horse stables out back. lol. Quote
Toomey Banshee Posted June 5, 2006 Author Report Posted June 5, 2006 You forgot the fountains of champagne in the front yard. Seriously, he's a friend from a while back, I thought it would be about half of that. The stuff I have now is from working my friggin balls off since I was about 12. Came from shit, with nothing, now I want more! lol.. Quote
Banshee~ Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 So let me get this right, your going to install a winch (like off of a truck?) in the ceilling to raise and lower the chandelier? We have one in out house that is about 16ft off the ground and just have chain that holds it up. My dad wired everything up (we were building the house) and we rented scafolding and put it up ourselves. We have a bfl that we used to put the bulbs in, no big deal. I can get pics of how high it is if you want, but the chain is pretty long so I dont know if a ladder would work for you. Quote
[email protected] Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 why cant you get a book at home depot diy , and learn how to install a 30 amp ??? breaker into your existing panel save some money DIY . Aslong as you got your circut grounded you should be safe from ugh oh's. Quote
Animalman294 Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 That is what I was thinkin', but if his house is like mine, my box is maxed out so I have to put a sub panel in my garage. To pay someone to do that would suck, but I do it myself......... Hey Banshee~, that must be one hell-of-a out-house to have a chandalier in it, and does it have runnin' water too..... Sorry, read the second sentence and couldn't control my laughter....... Quote
