So I took my Shee out a week ago and it was smoking white smoke after I started it up and rode it for about 5 minutes (it did it the whole time). I shut it off, started it up and it was still doing it. I let it sit for awhile then started it and no smoke. I rode it for about 20 minutes and it was perfect.

Today I went out and it did the same thing. Except it was dripping a little bit of coolant when I shut it off.

Help please??

Just went out and hosed it down. Started it, let it get a little warm and shut it down. I can smell coolant now and the rad was steaming from being wet I think, but it seemed to get hot awful quick.

some things too check are your coolant level since ur burning some. but mainly is your radiator clean? pop the wter pump cover off and look at the impellar are the blades worn or are they good to go? pop off the clutch cover and look at the plastic gear that drives the impellar. ill assume jetting is out since you didnt mentioned doing any mods before this occurence. im leaning real strongly in the way of that impellar and its drive gear though if its getting too hot.

one more thought is to check your compression. a head gasket leak will force the coolant out of the overflow and onto youtr pipes, hence the burning and smell.

Coolant level is good, the rad is pretty clean, but kind of twisted and some of the fins are bent/mangled. I'll check the other stuff.

I just find it wierd why it is burning coolant when it is cold not hot....Im baffled.

Thanks for the replys.

Kind of starting to think it is the head gasket. I haven't checked anything yet, but I think I figured out why it only smokes when its cold. When its hot, the gasket expands and causes the leak to stop. When its cold, the coolant gets by and burns off. Does this sound accurate?

Will a compression test tell me, or what do I have to do? It seems to run beautifully other than the smoke/heat.

white smoke is always a indication for water/coloant burning(if its comming out of your pipes) . you have a head gasget bad and hopefully not a warped head now! when you get the head off check around where the gasket seats around the head, you should see where it was leaking at.

Whats strange is that the coolant level is completely full. It is right up to the top of the neck. It must be burning really slowly.

Damn, this sucks. I dont have the cash to even begin to fix this thing. Oh well. Thanks for the help.

a new head + gasket can be scored cheap on ebay, but I wouldn't run it 'til you fix this or it'll overheat and cause a nice mess of more problems.

The metal (head and cylinder) may expand, your gasket won't.

I haven't read anything about your plugs yet...how do they look? White, crystalized, etc?

I hate to say it like this...for I know we're all not made of money...but, if you think it's going to cost money to fix now...keep riding it the way it is.

Then you'll see a nice hefty repair bill. Better to fix it while it's running than to TRY and fix it when it doesn't...

Oh believe me, Im not some asshole whos going to ride a baffed bike. Ill either park it till I can afford to fix it, or borrow the money for now to get it fixed. I'll pull the plugs today, and check the impeller and see how things look.

Amen...you know those shmucks are out there...

They're the same people that don't heed the warning of squealing brakes on their car...and a month later (they just started grinding)...

If it turns out to be the impeller...I have a stock plastic one.

Get me a few bucks for shipping, and you can have it.

If you don't have the loot...and still need it, let me know. I'll ship it and you can send me the bones when you do.

It's just sitting in my tool box right now...

I've been in cleaning mode. I was given an aluminimum impeller by someone who no longer owned a banshee.

Not like I'd be giving you a 10K motor...and it's just sitting in my garage. I'm ready to throw out my stock pipes/stingers...

My stock head and swingarm might fetch a few bucks...not sure.

Welcome to it. Let me know....

The impeller looked fine. The coolnat level is still perfect. I talked to my mechanic, and he thinks its burning gear oil. I hope not, that sounds serious. Any ideas?
