[email protected] Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 " the ride " mods in my sig , i wanted to take it out tomarrow to the track and i have NO more vpc12 . im running a compression of 220 and i have 168jets and middle needle... ( if that matters ) and i want to know if i can goto the airport and run ahv gas for the day or will i lean out and =-( ............ I think its not enough octane for compression but maybe im wrong. Ducman Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 If you have 220 psi, you better stick with the C12 Quote
Big Blue Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 I wouldnt run the av if your at 220lbs and another question is why do you have it so high? Quote
dajogejr Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 IF you have 220 PSI AND a timing plate, you'd need more than 112 octane. Get a new compression tester...it's broke...as I said in a different post... 18cc heads at sea level according to Dave Noss's chart (which...yes, is an approxamation) only yields 197PSI... The fact that you'd have 20 PSI over that is a little too hard to believe.... Quote
Ducman Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Maybe he's running 17cc domes? Anyway, its pretty high compression and will surely wear out the top end and crank much faster if 220psi is correct. Quote

Buttermilk421 Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 You guys have overlooked one key part of his "ride". It has a 10mm crank in it. That will increase the UCCR over the "chart" that lists expected compression for a given dome cc. Those charts are based on stock ported oem jugs, not ported ones, and stock stroke cranks. And, after all that, they are still just "charts". They ain't always accurate for a given motor. In my opinion, you probably would be taking a huge risk in attempting to run 100 octane with your setup. You probably are on the edge of being able to run 112. I once tried to run 101 octane in my 4mm stock cylindered motor with 210 psi compression and blew the motor because of detonation. Put it all back together exactly as it was, except I ran 111 octane this time around. Lasted for over two years, before I built a bigger motor. Quote
Ducman Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Yea dajogejr and buttermilk, I didn't pay close attention to the details in the signature. But just to add an example to this post, I too tried to go with 100 octane rather than 110 and detonated with my 4mm stroker, dune ported stock cylinders. I only measured 145 psi but my exhaust ports (tripple ported) were a lot higher than stock and I had 19cc stroker domes. I could run 100 octane at home and sand mountain, all 500' elevation and above, but at the Oregon dunes 0- 400' elevation in 50 degree weather it detonated badly, also partly due to too lean of a needle setting. But it would not have detonated with 110 that I ran several times before with this settup at the OR dunes. Quote

lonestar Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 220 psi is alot[ no need to have that much ] you'll be wrenching on it sooner than you think IMO. It's just wear&tear on the crank. Quote

When shes all blown up itll be time to go bigger ........ im in the process of moving as we speak to a atv community and well i plan to actually go bigger once the mortgage is situated. Thanks for the heads up guys you rock Edited May 4, 2006 by [email protected] Quote
Blue Duece Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 to maybe help with your question c-12 where i get it is 110 octane and they have 104 which is 102 octane, it seems to be lower than what they claim or advertise, i know im at 180 psi and only use the 112, i wouldnt risk it, it would be a damm shame to explode your motor Quote
[email protected] Posted May 4, 2006 Author Report Posted May 4, 2006 i get a blue drum like container that says vpc12..... was told its 112 octane i dont know much more then that other then it smells good and runs nice Quote
