fastcar01 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Well me and my buddy have been messing with his Banshee. It is hard to shift, sometimes it just won't shift. Doesn't matter if the clutch is pulled or not. We had it apart last year and it looked fine, we did not see anythign wrong, but it was the first time through the cases. Took it apart, inspected in and put it back together. He is going to try a new shift drum? Any other ideas? One more thing, when he bought it the guy told him it had some kind of easy/super/star shift something (can;t remember exactly what he said). But it shifted fine then. Thanks for the help Quote
chris642 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 may be the shift forks, my old RM 250 was hard to put into 1st and the trans acted funny some times. This was becasue of a bent sift fork, that is somethig to look for. Quote
CadillacBanshee Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 I have the same problem. My right crank seal is bad and i'm loosing my tranny oil. I just found this out. Quote
bigwill Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 check the shifter shaft were it turns the shift star, most likely its there, the constant pounding wears the ears on the shift shaft. If your lossing fluid from anywhere fix it now or buy more parts later. Quote
fastcar01 Posted May 4, 2006 Author Report Posted May 4, 2006 Well I think we are going to change the shaft and the forks. He is wanting to change the drum, but I am not sure if that is necesary. Do the drums go bad? Quote
giantragingmidget Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 i just went through my cases to put a new crank in. everything seemed to go fine. we got it back together and the clutch was slipping. it was the stock clutch so i just put in a new dirt digger. when it was done it seemed to "walk" ahead with the clutch pulled in and seemed to shift hard. talked to some people and they said that seemed normal for a new clutch-(needs to wear in). everything else seemed fine so i loaded it up and drove over three hours to silver lake sand dunes. rode for two hours-clutch problems!! when we tore it down for inspection we discovered the clutch lever assy. had been installed 180 degrees off-(don't know how it happened-didn't know it could!!!) when we did the crank. the half moon machined surface was NOT what the clutch rod was riding on-it was riding on the unmachined flat side! needless to say that created a ton of pressure on all that stuff in there thats why it shifted so hard. enough of me babbling-anyway check that clutch lever assy. to make sure it is properly installed. trust me if its not fix it now before you have the problems i did. it requires motor removal and splitting the case!!! MDS2106 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Worn and grooved clutch basket can also cause shifting problems Quote
