skyline_898 Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 i am thinking about buying a banshee. i was kind of turned off because my friends said they are really bad with having to work on them. i know they will take some maintance but how much really? thanks for comments Quote
bansheeseat$$ Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Banshees are actually really easy to maintane.Clean the air filter, change the tranny fluid, check your bolts and nuts and keep the chain adjusted correctly.Do this little bit of maintance and it will return happyness ten fold. Quote
watkins Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 (edited) Two-strokes can be very reliable, you just have to maintain them properly and make sure they are tuned correctly. Also as far as working on them goes, working on a two-stroke is as easy as it gets, not hard or complicated. Get yourself a clymers manual and you will be good to go. A four stroke requires mainentance as well, but if a four stroke breaks its gonna costs more to fix than a two stroke. Edited April 28, 2006 by watkins Quote
Animalman294 Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Another thing with 2 strokes is that when you change the plugs or even just to check the plugs. This is a great way to check how the internals are running inside the motor. If the air fuel mixture is off, plugs or any number of things are messed you this gives you the opportunity to fix the problem before it becomes a severe problem. If it does become a severe problem it is a lot cheaper to fix a two stroke than a fourpoke, and not only that but it is also a lot cheaper to increase torque and horsepower. For example my brother put 1500-1700 hundred into his craptor and he gained more horsies, but if you put that kind of money into a Shee motor, that bike is going to scream. I mean 2300 and you have a motor that will put you up in the 80-90 horse range, which doubles the stock horsepower. You'd have to spend a hell of a lot more than that to get those numbers out of a 4-poke. Just my .02 Quote
skyline_898 Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 if i get a banshee, what kind of mods should i get? watkins Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Mods are endless. Depends on how much money you want to spend... but to start you want (in this order): 1. Airfilter 2. Pipes 3. Remove TORs 4. Reeds That would be a good start, once you become addicted though you will be getting a port and new carbs, crank and everything. But the basics are pipes and a filter. Quote
skyline_898 Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 sorry to be stupid, but what is a TOR?? Quote
Justintoxicated Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 (edited) Well there is 2 of everythign vs something like a 250R, but it's not THAT much more work... As compared to 4 strokes, they are probably less maintanence, or maybe on par with a properly maintained 4-poke, but more often rebuilt though With a 2 stroke those the rebuilds are easy and cheap which also allows them to be more easily modified, once a 4-stroke has blown up its going to be $$$$$$$$ to fix it plus the motors are MUCH more complex, although you should have to rebuild them less often. So cheap rebuilds more often or one really expensive one less often... Also 4 strokes need transmition oil changed more often, oil filters, and valves checked every so often. Banshee has seperate case oil so if you use the right stuff it does not need to be changed ever trip. TORS is part of the stock carbs it stand for Throttle Over Rev System, it is supposed to keep the throttle from sticking if your carbs get wet, but the general consensus is it causes more problems than it solves. I think it's more something they added so as to not get sued, similar to the restrictive stock pipes. Edited April 28, 2006 by Justintoxicated Quote
skyline_898 Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 so a TOR is somthing that u dont want??? Quote
Justintoxicated Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 so a TOR is somthing that u dont want??? 509229[/snapback] It comes stock, you can just unplug it and also disconnec the Parking Brake and get a blockof plate and that will avoid issues. Some people remove it because it makes accessing and working with the carbs easier. Quote
