biggun6ss Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 I went to replace my new clutches today. I pulled the side cover off, took off the pressure plate, and removed the clutches. I am also going to install a shift star from boonman so I need to get the center hub off. Is the nut that holds it on regular threaded or reverse threaded? Are there any special tricks to getting it off or is it best to just use an impact? I tried using a a wrachet and holding the break but no go. This is my first time to do this so any help would be much appreciated. Quote
sheefreak Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Impact is by far the way to go. I have seen where people have welded a steel rod to a few of the clutch steels(plates) and made holding tool this way. It is regular thread. You can also jam a rag in between the primary drive gear and driven gear to get the actual basket part of it to stay still, but will still need to find a way to hold the inner hub. You may want to try to make the holding tool if you don't have an impact. Then you also have a way to hold it when it comes time to torque that nut. Quote
biggun6ss Posted March 30, 2006 Author Report Posted March 30, 2006 Ok. Ill just build me a tool here at work to hold the hub in place and use our air impact to get the nut off. Thanks for the info. Quote
